Inherit The Earth (English OCS/ECS version)

I have yet to see any dumps of any kind for the English OCS version of Inherit The Earth (AKA Erben Der Erde). It is said to exist in many reviews, but it isn't in any of the TOSEC collections I've seen and CAPS knows nothing about it. Does anyone have it?

That's odd, because this review claims that English versions do exist for the Amiga.

However, if by some chance they don't, then perhaps it might be feasible to hack in the English text files from the DOS or Mac ports of the game.

I can't see where that review says an English version exists...

And if it is saying that an English release exists, it's also got the year and companies wrong for the Amiga version.

Hmmmm, good point. I guess it was my imagination, then. Still, a translation of the game could turn out to be an interesting project. Come to think of it, a few other Amiga games could use English translations....

Translation will be very hard because game uses unknown packer to me. Also game has some NDOS file format. Even if You install this game on HDD result will be about 6 or 7 big files (images of floppy disks) and 2 executables as I remember. To do translation You must rip all files decompress them and after translation put back into big files.

Well, it may be hard, but I'm sure that it's possible.

The problem these days is finding the right people in the Amiga scene with the knowledge to do stuff like this... The C64 scene seems to be active as far as modifying and patching old games. Of course the average Amiga game is going to be more complex than C64 game is - so that may be part of it.

Almost impossible. Me and Chain did some research in this and we found it too difficult. And also the game is STILL ON SALE, so there also could occur a copyright problem.

As of today I can confirm that there was a English language version of Inherit The Earth being developed for the Amiga. It was being ported by ReaLogic and, as far as I know, would have been published by Softgold.

In it's current Beta format, supplied on a CD (an image of which I was given today), it will run on OCS, ECS, AGA and CD32. Apparently the performance is pretty bad on an A500, but I've got it running fine through WinUAE emulating an A1200 with 4mb FastRAM (don't have a CDROM drive for my A1200, or a CD32, yet) despite some audio glitches which I've been told are due to some synching issues with the English audio.

I don't know why this project was canned, but it was being developed.

I've already ripped the intro cinematic to video and I'll edit it together tomorrow.

So has anyone actually played this beta? I was following this thread about it and was expecting to hear about this, but it simply died a half-year ago.

Some many years and people are still interested

I think in 2012 is better to play in DosBox than spend many hours to translate this game (or actually insert english text from PC version to amiga version).

The English Amiga version of this game is something of a legend, but I've known of it existing since the mid 2000s. It was on a set of floppies somewhere in Europe, owned by one of the team that really didn't know what to do with them, or if anyone was interested in the game. I'm guessing eventually someone either got them to release it or found it at another source. There was never any indication if the game was complete. Admittedly, sure, there's a PC version of it. But that's certainly never been an excuse around here to blow off a piece of Amiga history, especially when you consider that Faery Tale Adventure and this game have some of the same team.
