_UAE************ Files

Does UAE HAVE to make these files in every directory it has been in? It makes a right mess when you try to use the folders on a real Amiga as you have these _UAE files in every folder.

Just wondered if they really were necessary.

You probably refer to _UAEFSDB.___ ? These files contain file attributes not known to MS-DOS (like file comments, protection bits etc.).

My question: why do you transfer these files to the Amiga ? Just LhA the directory inside WinUAE and unlha it on your Amiga. No UAEFSDB in there.

Because there are like 900MB of files, and also because I am storing files on another drive for something else, so LHAing everything all the time will make it a LOT more hassle and add hell of the lot more time to everything.

I think these ones are important as well: illegal characters!
You are allowed to use question marks ('?') in your filenames on the Amiga, whereas you cannot do this on Windows! I've just created a file named 'test?' on my HD dir - worked fine.
If such odd filename is used in your tree, WinUAE _must_ create such a file to assure the correct naming on the "Amiga".

add "filesys_no_fsdb=true" to config file manually. (will be officially supported in next version's gui..)

Remember that you lose file comments, "weird" protection flags and you can't anymore create names with "illegal" characters. Existing uaefsb-files are still used but new files are not created anymore.
