??

Are you sure about that? There is no mention of it on the site... (other than for an applet)

Well, I played the game to death, and a wee look in the CD contents unvieled the truth. Also, I send an email to the company and here's their answer:

"The game logics and all high level elements were implemented in Java.

Hope you are happier now. Java has no limits. I've been saying this since 98... Happy more people realise this nowadays.

Wow! That is so cool!

Do you think in runs on a virtual machine or is natively compiled? Is there a JVM on the CD?

It's not particularly cool. It's only used for game scripting, nothing low-level at all. They could just as easily have used javascript or perl or python or any language, either by writing their own interpreter or by using an existing interpreter/compiler that can call external functions. The fact that they chose Java is largely irrelevant: the engine is PC only.

I suspect that the reason they chose it was so that they could make the engine easily modifiable and because Java SDK is freely downloadable. No really big advantage over other languages really, considering most other languages also have free versions.
