Before MAME..there was Champs EM!

Let us harken to the days when the 386 and 486 chips ruled. When there was no MAME.
John W. Champeau, a programmer unsatisfied with the arcade "conversions" found on the NES, Genesis and other consoles and computers of the day, decided to create a programming language geared for gaming.
Instead of a exact copy or code of the great arcade games, he emulated those games.
Although the last entries were released in 1998, they old up beautifully today.
I am guessing with the development of MAME and other arcade emulators, the coders became disillusioned.
I bumped into this great site while looking for some nifty oold DOS games.

There is no exaggeration in saying these games, from Kong to Galaxia (note, these were not exact reanslations of copyrighted games, but pretty nifty tributes), are superb.
It's easy to guess which games inspired these gems.

The games run perfectly in DOSBox. I am not sure if they run on NT,2000 or 98.
In any case, enjoy

Actually, according to the history on that very website, these are recreations. They are not emulations. The author created the games from scratch because they were no versions available for the PC at the time.

I did not really put it correctly. I struggled to, but did not quite make it. Emulation in the english language means to copy. In our (gamers) usage it means the exact image/duplicate, because a rom of say, Zelda for the NES is the exact copy or dump of that game byte for byte.
I guess it was better to say he was emulating the game the way a young football player emulates his hero on a professional club.

I appreciate your input, it is clearer than what I originally stated!

Besides that..did you try the games? They are amazingly well crafted!
