To be honest Chukles I dont know the game, but it got nominated in irc so I put it on the list.

I knew there was going to be abit of trouble with the nomination procedure, as its hard to let everyone know whats going on. I'll post a new thread asking for nominations after the voting for this one has stoped. (21 Days from opening).

Spread the word the voting is up in the twenties witch is promising for such a short amount of time. Thnaks everyone again.

"The Bards Tale" is correct, or to be more accurate it is:

The Bard's Tale: Tales Of The Unknown Volume 1

My 1986 Amiga version certainly didn't have such protection. No dongles where dangling in my box.

All my copies (US & UK releases, 2 compilation versions) need a dongle that is plugged into joystick port 2, otherwise the game freezes after the selection screen. I'm not aware of any first releases of the game without dongle protection. Perhaps your copy is a re-release or has a cracked exec?

As far as I am aware no 'crack houses' released games with full colour box and manuals?

the game was an originally release as I remember how old fashioned the lack of protection seemed and it was the first AMiga release that i had which didnt come from the early 90's / late-80's.

Anyway I don't have it anymore so it's a bit pointless arguing.

That's ok - I did a little checking in HOL and saw enough to know that this is another port of Crowther and Woods original Adventure (the game that is widely accepted as having begun the "text adventure" genre), this time put out by Level 9 as one of the 3 games in the "Jewels of Darkness" trilogy. This port has graphics added, but they are rather ghastly to behold, and certainly not the sort of thing that shows off the Amiga well. I'm afraid that if the person who nominated it on IRC doesn't show up here soon, it may not get a single vote.

You didn't say whether you bought your copy brand new or used. If it was a secondhand copy, people have been known to copy cracked execs on to the original disks (to bypass cumbersome protection) and then sell them at a later date without mentioning it to the buyer.

Didn't know it was an argument. I was looking at it as HOL research, especially since I did the last update on Leader Board. Would be good to know if there was a first release of the game without dongle protection. CAPS might also be interested to know about it if they haven't dumped it yet. However, since you don't have your copy anymore you are right.....the discussion is a bit pointless.

I meant argument as in a discussion; one person suggests one argument, the other person an alternative argument. I didn't mean it as in bare ass bitch slapping.

Which is what you'll be getting..

Yeah man! Deja Vu was a cool game! Not the best I've played from 85/86 though... but worth naming!

YEAH! Another vote for Leaderboard. Somewhat ironically titled regarding its position in this poll.

Yep, I meant argument as in debate. It was more about fact-finding than debating. After all, I am DrBong of HOL borg. Resistance is futile. EAB members and their originals will be assimilated!

Apologies to Freakyweakywoo....didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Only about 8 days left to get your votes in. I'm going to start taking nominations for 87' on a new thread in the next few days. Anyone know how many members Eab has?

I voted for Marble Madness, but I dunno if my vote can be considered, as I only played 4 of those games.

I have never been a big fan of DotC. Could never figure out what makes it so special.

Neither I think Leaderboard is a very good game.

Silent Service, in the other hand, is lots of fun.

But Marble Madness is the real gem of those 4 games, and that's why it got my vote.
