Game in "Big"

Probably not Amiga related, I don't know what system this game is for. But anybody know the name of the game in the film "Big" with Tom Hanks?

To refresh your memory...

Character name: Josh Baskins
Actor name: David Moscow

Computer game script:
Scene 1
You are standing in the cavern of the evil wizard. All around you are the carcasses of slain ice dwarfs...
Melt the wizard.
What do you want to melt him with?
What do you think I want to melt him with...
(Josh, don't forget to take out the garbage)
Just a second!
Throw the...
(Josh, did you hear what your mother said?)
One minute!
(Josh Baskin!)
Your hesitancy has cost you dearly. The wizard, sensing your apprehension, unleashes a fatal blow from the ice scepter. With luck, you will thaw in several million years.
Great.

Scene 69
You are standing in the cavern of the evil wizard. All around you are the carcasses of slain ice dwarfs....
Melt wizard....
What do you want to melt him with? ...
Throw thermal pod.

Doesn't sound like a real game does it

It seems it either:

1) Doesn't exist, was created for the game

or

2) "The game is called "Wizard and the Princess" and was released by Sierra On-line back around 1980 for Apple ][, Commodore64, and Atari 400/800. It was released for IBM PCs as "Adventure in Serenia". It was included in the "Roberta Williams Anthology"."

Can anybody confirm this?

Just in case anybody is interested...

I have looked at Wizard and the Princess and neither the walkthough nor the screenshots I have seen (http://www.mobygames.com/game/shots/gameId,1761/) look much like the game in Big. So it seems it probably doesn't exist.

Dammit.

A game I have wanted to play for 16 years, and it doesn't exist!

I didn't know there was an alternate ending. Or are you making it up?

It would be rather weird if the game featuring in Big was developed only for the movie. After all, it definately has a Sierra look to it.

Most people tend to think the game is indeed the Wizard and the Princess, but it sure is not that game. Apparently, the general consensus among the more knowledgeable people (ie those old farts still playing computer games, meaning us) is that the screens were produced for the movie (not the game itself, mind, just some screens).

Cool! I'd like to see that too. I'll try and create some time today to get in contact with the people responsible for the game/anim/whatever it is.

I found this bit of info on the net

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I checked the movie credits, and no credit is given to the game publisher, which there would (should) be if it was a real game. There are these credits:

Computer Image Designed by SMA Video Inc. (now SMA Realtime, Inc.: http://www.smavid.com/)
Computer Display Engineered by David Satin (David Satin is now EVP, Secretary, and Treasurer of SMA Realtime, Inc.)

So, I think it isn't a real game, and instead a special effect.

Lovely gfx...reminds me of the first PC where I was allowed to put my mitts on...my Dad's chunky 1983 IBM PC/XT

Hehe, considering those many adventures I've played in my life of this type, it turned out most of them are cut to the same pattern, so it was "bloody hard" for me to solve it

Regarding the game in Big, as Belgarath said, it's not real. Obviously I can't be 100% certain of this, but I seem to recall either an article or perhaps an interview (on the DVD maybe?) of someone saying it was generated for the movie.

As for the alternate ending, it does NOT exist. I can't tell you how many times people claim this alternate ending exists when it doesn't. What noone seems to realise is that Big was released at the same time as another boy-to-man type movie called 14 Going On 30 (not to be confused with the other similar movie 13 Going On 30, the Jennifer Garner flick). They were both released in 1988, however I seem to recall that one was put into production slightly before the other. They're essentially the same movie with different actors with one vital difference - Tom Hanks does not get the girl in Big while in 14 Going On 30, he does (well, not Tom Hanks)! After romancing his teacher, he gets switched back to a teenager and is sitting in class, depressed. An announcement is made that a new student is going to be joining them. The student takes a seat next to the boy and lo and behold, it's his teacher as a teenager.

Something that very few seem to know is that IMDb suffers the same fate as Wikipedia, they are both user run sites thus aren't truly factual. To give credit where it's due, IMDb is much more accurate than Wikipedia since facts can be checked simply by playing through the credits on a DVD. Nevertheless, this was a case of a user incorrectly changing the Big entry so many years ago, and having the Internet believe it since noone proved otherwise.

14 Going On 30 isn't on DVD yet (Disney forgets about their 80s back catalog) so I bought the VHS from a video store many years ago and had to convert it to DVD myself. Before anyone tells me I'm wrong because they've convinced themselves that an alternate ending to Big exists, I own both movies and have watched them many times over. I'm the type that buys DVDs based on the special features and listens to any and all commentaries. I can't be 100% sure without talking to someone like Penny Marshall about Big, but I'm 99.9% sure that I'm right.

Ha ha, I hope you got it eventually. I had to add in a lot of commands not found in the movie, so I tried to throw some good hints in there to assist you in figuring it out.

Nice, a bit short, I'll give it a 7 out of 10.
