I'm looking for both of these too.

@flunky are you able to make an adf of Grossmeister and upload it to the Zone? I'm sure one of the eab members would easily be able to disable the protection check.

The ADF is in the zone now.
Removing the protection would be nice.

Cool, hopefully someone with some cracking skills will remove the protection!

This is a nasty one! The main game is overlayed so you don't have easy access to all the code unless it's running, and it looks like it's compiled with some kind of BASIC interpreter/shell running on top of it.

I had a quick look but this kind of protection is a real pain in the butt, maybe Galahad or Girv would like to accept the challenge?

It might be easier to extract the words from the RAM. I've uploaded some screens:

Chessmate V1.2 is in the Zone. You'll need a WB 1.1/1.2 Extras disk with AmigaBASIC on it in order to launch the game. Enjoy!

Is this Chessmate disk damaged?

The reason I ask is every time I make an illegal move the game crashes, I don't think it's to do with the winuae settings.

The disk image is fine AFAIK. Before uploading, I tested it successfully on a A500/1Mb/KS 1.3 machine as it wouldn't work on A4000/060 with degrading. If WinUAE isn't the problem, then it might be AmigaBASIC as I've found it to be unstable across versions in the past with old games. If you haven't already, try the game using AmigaBASIC V1.2 (it's on the WB 1.2 Extras disk, so insert that when the game asks for an Extras disk). Let me know how you go......

I've tried several of the extras 1.2 disk and various winuae configs, it still always guru's when I make an illegal move.

Great! Unfortunately I didn't see this until yesterday (7th August) and by then the ADF was no longer in The Zone. Would it be possible to upload it again please? Thanks very much.

After waiting so long it would be absolutely criminal if you didn't finally get a copy of these games... Both Chessmate 1.2 and Grossmeister have been uploaded to The Zone! for you

Welcome back plugh83

I did a little more testing on my A500 set-up and it's a bit flaky when it comes to illegal moves. Most of the time it will guru. I haven't tried it under KS 1.1/1.2 yet (have to pull out an A1000 from storage for that), but I doubt it will be much different if you've tried all the WinUAE configs. The disk checks out fine, though, so maybe it was just a fatal bug that wasn't picked up in play-testing (if any was actually done!). I'll try to do a little more testing on real hardware, but I think we're stuck with a bugged game until someone else comes up with an original/crack for comparison.

@DamienD
Thanks for uploading the stuff again for plugh83- yes, it would be criminal if he didn't end up with the stuff he requested so long ago!

As an aside, I vaguely remember my dad telling me that Battle Chess doesn't allow you to castle.

...but thanks should really go to flunky; for providing Grossmeister, CodyJarrett for hacking Grossmeister to retrieve the protection codes and DrBong; for providing Chess Master 1.2

I just re-uploaded them for you as I'm a dirty "Zone" leech, hehehe
