Big grin Crazy world of the Atari 7800

Recently found out about Atari's last 8bit console and found it had a "interesting" selection of games which maybe contributed to its inevitable failure against the NES and the C64 back in the day...

Gentlemen I give you...NINJA GOLF!!!

Compare with the NES version, and Sega Master system version.
No wonder the Atari 7800 collapsed faster than the Lambada craze!

C64 Version seemed better too

And the CPC,

And both machines came out just before or around the same time the 7800 should have done (84)

then again, i bet none of these had Ninja Golf in their software library!

Good graphics or not, DD is still crap. The 7800 isn't that bad. There were plenty of well done ports like Ballblazer, Centipede, Pole Position II, etc. And it played (most) of the 2600 library.

Atari 2600 DD (pic borrowed from AA). See, it's Activisions fault for the bad port.

Come on, the 7800 is a fine machine.

And obviously ninjas play golf. All that zen training helps them improve their performance on the tee

Loved the ninja golf teeshirt

The NeoGeo version is pretty good looking. Although, it's a completely different game, it's not a bad little fighter.

Yeh, check out the Epyx titles on the 7800. Some people have claimed that the time Epyx devoted to the 7800 titles combined with the poor sales contributed significantly to them going down the gurgler.

There are a load of ugly looking NG games. Personally, I never liked how the first Fatal Fury games looked like.
