Null cable question

Hi,ive recently aquired an Amiga1200 and originally thought that adf files would go straight to it.......after reading a few threads i realise i was quite wrong.

After seeing alot of mentions to a null modem cable i decided that was the way to go,problem is after searching i have found both 9pins and 25 pins...and i dont know which to use.

So what i would like is if someone could direct link me to a cable that will work, and possibly a bit of advice on what software etc to use once i have aquired a cable. All advice and help is greatly received.

Thanks

Thumbs down Read the FAQ's and search!

Please read the FAQ's, there is tonnes of information about this on EAB. About 50 people have asked the exact same question so please do a search rather than starting a new thread.

hmmm, your first bit is fairly simple... 25 pin for the amiga end, 9 pin for the PC end...

the 'deluxe' cables have both on each end, if you can't find a 9 to 25 one. or try a 9 to 9 or 25 to 25 and an 9->25 adaptor.

as for software... delve on aminet, others here should be able to tell you the best packages...

i realise this, and believe me i have spent the best part of 2+ hours trying to decipher the posts returned from a search, and i understand that there are various types of software available to use.

However the mentions are of null cables and i have found both 9 pin and 25 pin versions...and i am rather unsure of which to buy, thats why i hoped for a direct link to one.

possibly one that other people have bought and found to work.

Im really not that clued up on amigas, but i am on forum rules, and i did try the search option beforehand.

Edit: Thanks Severin, that is exactly what i needed to hear.

go to www.maplin.co.uk and search for part number VD77J...they do a 9-25 null modem cable for £5.99 + P&P which i reckon is pretty good...now all you need to do is work out which software you're going to use...

BTW, Cloanto's Amiga Explorer software is good if you're not too Amiga savvie (like me)... http://www.amigaforever.com/amigaexplorer.html

thanks Matfink,i think i will give Amiga Explorer a try, after reading the page about it,it seems by far the simplest solution.

Thanks again
