Hooooo Hired Guns AGA

Wow. Here is something I didn't know. There is actually an AGA version of Hired Guns. The programmer of Hired Guns (Scott Johnston) reveales this information in his very interesting review of Bloodwych:

Quote:
Quote from Scott Johnston
In the AGA version of Hired guns which hasn't been released the monsters have multiple sound effects instead of just one, as in the released version. Typically in Hired Guns there are quite a few contemporary weapons, although they tend to be the least effective ones. One of my favourite sounds (only in the AGA version) was from the film Where Eagles Dare, the German Schmeisser sub-machine gun, which makes a satisfying metallic clattering RAT-TAT-TAT.

This is one rarity that I'd love to see released to the cummunity in the same way that Liquid Kids was released. I hope Scott still has this AGA version of Hired Guns somewhere.

I'd be pleased for that also...

but at the moment, as I requested some time ago
for an original copy of hired guns itself as my
real disks corrupted at some stage

I've heard some rumors about the non offical versions
of hired guns and really want to avoid any possible
truth there... so if anyone has a validated original
copy of hired guns I'd be mighty happy...

as we all wait for AGA of course ,)

thanks for any effort

Unfortunately, I don't see much chance of this getting released. Scott gave the HD with source to Steve Hammond who won't release the game due to legal reasons. He said he would gladly release it if permission were given by the current copyright holders of the Hired Guns intellectual property (which I think is Sony?).

If anyone knows who to contact at Sony to get permission for this, let me know!

This is interesting as FromWithin said it never happened! Ive discussed this with him twice now.

Interesting...especially as Scott is discussing Sound effects too...perhaps this story isnt true?

Psygnosis were never going to release an AGA version. I don't think the cost could have been justified considering the game itself was pretty much exactly the same. As far as I remember, Scott did the sound effects himself for Hired Guns which explains why he had extra sounds to be able to put them in the extra chip RAM. I've also got a vague recollection that there was some other tiny enhancement like rotating ninety degrees has more frames to make it look smoother or something.

Ah...here we go, from the man himself:

"New levels, new weapons, improved gfx, new soundfx plus a special
lighting effect. Remember the atmospheric 'pools of light' in Doom, well its sort of like that. Intro anim, hires Ham8 world map. The best bit
(the only unfinished bit) is the 45 degree rotation, thats where all the
extra memory goes.

And it IS NOT going to be released. "

So if he ever did finish it, it would have been just for himself. I don't think it ever did get properly finished though. I'll see if I can get hold of someone to get it released.

Lost forever?

Have used an awfull lot of time trying to get hold of someone that knows where this game went. (Hired Guns AGA or CD32)

I KNOW I have seen a review of this game in an old Amiga magazine, and someone says that its been leaked out.

Is this game lost forever? If so, its really a shame

Yeah every cracker called every CD32 game the AGA version even if it was completely OCS/ECS. Even the magazines did.

But just like everyone else here, i would LOVE to see the "proper" AGA version of this game!. It would be absolutely brilliant.

Thumbs up

I would be interested to know if this version had the controls patched for the CD32 pad? Does anyone have it?

I made a post of a similar nature a while ago.
