Heh, that is the way business works. We should be glad that some companies think they can make money on the Amiga market. The Amiga won't survive (commercially) unless there's a whiff of money in the air :-)

They have been known to steal work from hard-working coders.

and they are as harmful to the Amiga as Amiga Inc.

I didn't know they had stolen anything. That is obviously not good. But why are they "as harmful to the Amiga as Amiga Inc"? They published a lot of programs that were greatly appreciated by people who did not own PCs (Amigawriter, for instance). And they stuck with the computer longer than most other companies did.

H&P seemed to be involved in being the sole end distributors of certain " REAL " amiga software and hardware the fact they left no support when they ducked out peeves me , as I,m still stuck with a non working Catweasel that eyetech informed me was H&P,s problem or WAs I just conned?
maybe someone with real knoledge can answer that one

The Amiga would have been nothing after a point without H&P. Saying that they are harmful is not a nice thing. As for stealing software, who cares...

H & P have stuck with the Amiga, which can only be a good thing. I gather that the code theft issue is a lot more complicated than many people think. These things usually are, and we should let the courts decide on such matters rather than just turning against H & P. If theft is proven, then may be the time to decide.

In the meantime, let them get on with what they are doing. IT can only improve the Amiga's chances of success.

IMHO of course

Exactly IanS. I am 100% with you on that. After all, I don't think that as end users who have at least (!) one pirated game in our collection (this is theft, right?) can actually critisize a company that has done shitloads for us. Let the courts decide. I want their software...

Thanks manicx! Finally I've said something on the EAB that somebody, somewhere agrees with! :-)

Akira is going to hate me more than ever though... I think I ought to hide before he sees me.

The whole WarpOS/PowerUP shite killed the PPC expansions for good.

THANK YOU H&P

They just did it to cash in on the PPC bandwagon and killed Phase5 right away. They didn't care about giving any kind of choice.

WarpOS was much better. It was about choice and people chose the best. I blame management for that. If two companies can't find a solution in such an issue, f*ck that. Why blame H&P and not Phase5? What did they do to prevent it? They didn't even care to colaborate with H&P? BTW, I don't think that the reason for them going down was WarpOS.

Hey Akira, H & P, Phase 5 and every other company are in business to make money. You choose to make a product (or provide a service) and you hope that it proves to be better and more popular than the competition. That's the nature of business. Do Ford care if Vauxhall go bust because they make cars that don't sell as well? Nope, and while there's competion, at least people get a choice. Or they can have both.

Don't be so negative. They're helping keep the Amiga alive and they're providing jobs for people. There's no harm in that.

If they do like with the Amithlon guy, they better not be offering any jobs.

I think this kind of shit hurts the Amiga, not helps it.

And I won't get into another "AmigaOS is not Amiga" argument again, we had it already and you know I think these new products have nothing to do with amiga to me.

I, like most people, do not KNOW *ALL* of the facts behind Amithlon. I have read Bernie Meyer's statements, and H & Ps' stance on the matter... but business and copyright laws are complicated. It would be unwise to make rash judgements without knowing all the facts. I sympathise with Bernie, if as he says, H & P have swindled him, but I think there is more to it, and more people involved than just him.

H & P leaving would hurt the Amiga.

I'll pat my 030 12k and my 040 12k when I get home!
