Whats the best machine (processor/memory/video) for the current mame?

I was being serious, ok whats the minimum for no slowdowns on the latest mame?

With my p4 1800 runs fine ( i use xmame-xmess 0.62 ).

Maybe someone with an older system can tell you more about the minimun specs.

But my question is: is the same emu compiled for dos ( isn't dos a 16 bit os? ) faster than a win emu ( 32 bit but with so called multitasting but direct x and other graphics interesting features ) or linux emu ( 32 bit and real multitasking with only direct graphic access ) rather than macos ( dunno what different features it has )?
