Vynil dye is made just for plastics and works in such a way as to not ruin the original surface! it kinda digs in aswell so it dont scratch or flake off its very hard to balls up a spray job using this stuff, any runs will vanish when it drys!

dremal clones are cheaper alternatives to the official Dremal! you can visit places like B&Q, Homebase and Walmart (same as the one in the states) and pick up a 20 Powerdevil in a case, with 100 assorted bits, cutting disk's and drillbits!

the cutting disk's are poo! the great thing is all the dremal parts are compatible with the clones so you can get the super-duper reinforced disk's and they will work!

That sounds great! Now I will have to paint the whole thing (case, mouse, leads, PSU - after removing the innards of course) so everything is protected against yellowing and looks fantastic!

Hey rattus, had a look on diy.com but couldn't find the one I got, and mine back at my house.

However if you go to your local B&Q, and go to where the power tools are, you should see a 'hobby tool' at about 17 or so, in a roughly rectangular case, long side vertical, with a moulded handle at the top - think the brand is 'Performance Power' (but don't quote me) it comes with drills, cutting disks (crap), mandrels, polishing pads, engraving tool, etc.

Buy the genuine Dremmel reinforced cutting disks as they're a lot better, but cost a fair bit!

Take it you've had a coffee or two?

Well thats the thing! If this stuff comes in white id like to re-paint my A500 and the A500HD+ white again. Do you have any brand names Electroblaster?

Dremel clones work, but they don't last as long, nor are they as heavy duty as the original. If you want to get something that will last, I'd go with Dremel. I've know many people who'v bought the cheaper alternative, and the motor will die after a few years or the steel bits would break.

I have used non-buffered interfaces ok in the past! i think if you keep the cables to the standard length it doesnt hurt (never lost an amiga doing this)

if your going to have very long ide cables then get a buffered interface! the power computing one is supposed to be good... i have two of the eyetech/idefix97 interfaces and they work great

I'd like to see an internal pic of this machine with DVD inside...

And some details of the plastic dye...

I can see a rush for modified A1200s...

Cant see how this A1300 could pose any problem!
I have a slimline cdrom drive, I have an A1200, I have a dremel and I also have a can of spray paint! I even have a buffered IDE interface which is much better than a crappy splitter!
Plus this has been done before, many times! *yawn*

In that case, type up a detailled do-it-yourself guide for me please, as I'm having problems! :eek

the only remote problem I can see is mixing in the audio which is easy enuff, I do however need a new soldering iron before I undertake any of this.

Incidentally dont any of you go buying IBM drives for this little project as the connectors at the back are completely differant (not 2.5 IDE type) hence they would be useless.

the main problem which I have run into is getting power to the CD drive...

It's a nice slimline samsung model with one of those weird mini-connectors on the end, but no matter since the drive came with an adapter to convert this into normal 40pin/3.5" IDE which I can easily attach to the IDEfix...

Now my miggy allready has a power splitter cable (it used to have a big-ass HDD which leeched off the floppy power supply) but the connector on this thing has 4 large pins.... The CD drive only has two little pins for power...

what the hell? How do you get power to this thing??

I guess I need a new power splitter cable... can anyone translate eyetech.co.uk for me so I can get the right one?

Right out of my head, this might not help, but anyway...

Those convertors from 2.5 to 3.5 do not handle the power side of things pretty well, so you'll need to grab power from somewhere else. If it's not a diskdrive kind of plug that it has, but one of those smallish whitey things with two cables, I bet there's some sort of splitter that will contain one of these, you can buy that and link it to your current splitter. I think these are the power plugs that fans use, but I could be well wrong!

if it helps, this is whats on the back of the CD drive: http://www.computerpartsusa.com/product.php?ID=806

mines exactly the same except no audio ports (which I don't care for anyway)

and instead of 4pins for power there are only two....
