Black is great with a black keyboard a la CDTV, white/grey keyboards showuld be with a white case in my mind.

Nevertheless....a most impressive achievement
Id do this project in white myself if it didnt mean cutting up a lovely A1200 case!

I still think Black looks pish. Maybe if you get a CDTV keyboard and extract the black keys, then it would look cool

I will repeat myself: still VERY impressive.

AMP can play DVD`s , and mpeg files (my favourite for ppc amiga ... ) I think it is ppc only though, you need all the speed you can get ...

ftp://ftp.amidog.com/pub/amp/AMP204.lha

Sorry I couldn't answer the more tech questions.
I went to ask my friend by email who designed the Amiga A1300 DVD, he replied

Quote:
It was only that I came across someone selling an adapter for attaching Laptop CD Rom's etc
to std IDE leads, that gave me the idea. I was totally bored of boring old PC-A-Like Amiga
Towers, always square and beige. Plus all the extra space they take up. I wanted to build an
Amiga that had all the Tower had but still kept it's look and feel.
What drivers did I use??? I can't give all my secrets away ;op

Secret drivers? he used idefix97 for the hard drive and cd drom!
the compact flash card more than likely has a custom written driver or is a CC0: mountlist so it appears as a normal drive! much like they do on the pc. the card modem... ive have drivers for them on cd never tried one tho! does it work well?

those adaptors for slim ide drives are ten a penny for the pc! i know a few people who have built custom plexi-glass pc's and have used them for space reasons.

tell the guy he's done a class job on that amiga! i like the way the cd drive is mounted and how clean the slot was cut!
i really want to know how the cd drive was mounted in the top left corner? is it screwed in or just held by pressure from the keyboard and top case?

The PCMCIA modem driver is probably pcmser.lha from the Aminet. The driver for the compact flash is also available from the Aminet.

The Aminet's great, isn't it?

If the Aminet was ever to vanish it would be one hell of a loss!

Secrets my arse. I'd say any drive would do, as long as you can make it fit.

From the looks of things, seems like this machine has NO idefix interface in it, which means trouble. It just has a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter, and a dual IDE cable.. tsk tsk.. be careful!

IDE Splitter with IDEfix97' software and drivers. This enables the the HDD and DVD Rom to
run on their own IDE Channels, so they are both Master with no Master / Slave slowdown.

I feel sudden inspiration....

where can you get a cheap internal slimline CD-ROM these days?

at the moment my huuuuuge Awai CD-ROM drive is hooked up via a SCSI Squirrel adapter, which is nice but hella slow. I like what you have done here with your A1300DVD please, please, PLEASE post internal pics!

I will paint it blue (with black CDTV keys) and call it my iMeega

It would be cool if you could boot of the flashdrive. They are very cheap nowadays, 256 mb for nothing almost. True a little on the small side but enaugh for my fav apps, emus and games.

(about aminet: its only about 20 gb I think, I might download it just in case )

I'll now talk from the ass:

If the Card reader performs as if it was any normal PCMCIA drive, you could boot off it.

Did anyone try it? Hold down those two mouse buttons and select CC0 for booting.

Well I spent a little time asking him about what some of you baffled about and quote from him are..

Quote:
Take Akira he's going on about there being no IDEfix interface and that the drives
are on a straght IDE Cable i.e. master and slave If he was clever enough he would have read the spec fully and
noted that the HDD and DVD were staed as being on their own channel i.e. both
are Master, so an interface must be present DOH!!
Quote:
As to CD Rom drivers?? of course they are CD Rom drivers, but not like they think
and the IDE interface is built by me and the drivers tweeked to match, they will
never work it out, or find it on Aminet, as it aint there .
