Weird physics game thing

This is very obscure. I had a filthy pirate copy of it. I couldn't tell you if it was marketed as a game or as an educational title, but it was really good.

I remember lots of puzzles involving physics, like bouncing light beams of mirrors and stuff. I also remember driving a little tank thing across some screens affecting things on the landscape (again physics stuff) to allow the tank to pass.

This was a long time ago, must have been before 1990. I think it was on more than one disk and I've got a feeling that it wasn't by a UK company. Some other European country, maybe.

And no, I didn't dream it. My memory of it is vague but I've wanted to see it again for years because I remember enjoying playing it.

It's not deflektor. Is there any more info on Lasermania?

It wasn't only bouncing light off mirrors, but I remember stuff to do with prisms and splitting light into primary colours and stuff.

HOL has an entry for Lasermania 2, although I have never been able to get the game to work (hence no screenshots).

Cool.
Looks like a broken ADF, though, because this doesn't work on either UAE nor real Amiga.

It's not broken! It just doesn't have bootblock, that's all. Game works even on expanded A1200 and emu. It is also hd installable. Released in 1995 not 1990 so this isn't the game You are looking for FromWithin.

Yes!
That was the important info I needed.
Got it to work now, thanks!

Anyway, this MUST work without HD, just because there's a startup-sequence included and it auto-boots 'Lasermania 2' after showing a cheap crack intro!
Maybe the bootblock got destroyed.

Moreover, it looks like you must have a WB 3.x (edit: or WB 2.x) fonts disk for this game to work because only then it made it beyond the system requester! (You cannot cancel it with the mouse because there's no cursor.)

Most of the LK Avalon games are created on WB 2.0. I think that cursor is not bug but System-Configuration makes invisible cursor. Delete system-configuration and You'll see cursor.

Thumbs down

NOT working.

Booting with WB 2.04 didn't give desired result.
Tried with WB in DF0:, Fonts in DF1:, Lasermania 2 in DF2:.

Needs to be tested on real A2000 with *this* WB version.

Yeah, but does this matter?

PATCHED VERSION IN THE ZONE NOW!
Auto-boots with no problems now.

Forget all your Workbench disks from now on!

HOL should now be able to make screenshots of this game without silly workarounds.

haynor: if you have a clue how to play this game, tell me.

No, you didn't dream it. I know exactly the game you are talking about. Unfortunately I only have the same vague memory of it as you. I have thought about it often though over the years, as it was really a very well done game.

I did a fairly extensive google search on this the other day, but came up with nothing. There is a PC game called Laser Kombat (http://www.olympus.net/personal/dewey/laser/) that looks to have a similar idea. It is not as nice to look at as the Amiga version, and looks far more simplistic, but that has been the closest thing I could find so far. All the other suggestions in this thread have been good ones, but were not at all like the game we are looking for.

I wish I could provide more information, but I really don't have anything beyond what From Within mentioned. All I know is that I copied it from the bloke across the street back in New Zealand around 1989-1990.

I can't believe this has come up again. 'Tis good. There may yet be hope. I'm really glad that someone else remembers it.

Now as I remember it, it would start off with a tutorial of some aspect of physics, like demonstrating light refraction through a prism, or similar. Then you would have a task of some sort involving whatever it had just taught you. The level I specifically remember was one with the tank/vehicle, as I said before. It was a bit like Deflektor in that you had to setup mirrors to bounce the light, but you controlled the tank/vehicle which you used to move across the screen and flick switches to move the mirrors; stuff like that.

I've scanned the titles of thousands of games over the last few days, but still haven't quite found it. The closest I have got is this game called Light Force by TSA Media. It seems to be a fairly similar game with similar principles, but the game I remember was much more professional looking (better gfx etc). Ah well, maybe one day I'll find it!

You might be interested to know that you can press Left Amiga-V to press the left button (usually retry) of a system requester or Left Amiga-B to press the right button (usually cancel). Hence you don't need a mouse pointer!

A "tip" that can be ---very easily--- found in any Amiga user's manual

I'm pretty sure the game you're thinking of is Light Force. If my memory serves me, it was a 2 disc game from an Australian company and shipped in a smaller-than-PC-game sized black box with some gold letters.

No, I remember this one from a thousand years ago also, and it isn't Light Force, nor Laser Mania 2, cuz I have both of those and they ain't gelling.. so hrm..

As far as melonscratchers go, this would most certainly seem to be somewhat of a honeydoodle.

Arse.

That's my contribution.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but since it was never figured out, and I had the exact same question on a different forum about five years ago, I figured I'd chime in so this thread can finally serve its purpose.

I was trying to figure out the name of a Laser and Mirrors game back in 2003. People kept saying Deflektor or Lasermania, which were both wrong. I just remembered that there were directional mirrors and prisms and prize bubbles and just a huge assortment of level elements; and that you could build your own levels.

I eventually found out that the game I was looking for was Mindbender.

Screenshot

I hope that's what you were looking for.

Hello there TheNilvarg,

Welcome to EAB and nice input

Hopefully it is the game FromWithin is after, although I don't see any tanks in the screenshots.

One small thing, your screenshot link to Lemon doesn't work so I've added a link to the Mindbender HOL screenshots instead
