My A1200 Less Compatible Than UAE!

Got an accelerator in my A1200 so it's game time! However...

1) Install game (in this case Pacmania, a sad example I know) using WHDLoad. Run game. Get a crash, dialog says error in line 1111 emulator.

2) Do exactly the same thing on the same config with WinUAE (using the ADF off TOSEC), and game works fine.

3) Copy files that work from my WinUAE setup over to the A1200 (using Amiga Explorer) and game works fine!

This is an Amiga Technologies A1200, so it's got the PC floppy drive and adaptor board. Is the floppy drive not reading the disk correctly and generating an invalid disk image on the HD?

Assuming you've installed an original copy, have you tried adjusting the tooltypes (e.g. NOCACHE, NOMMU etc.)? If so, then as bippym has said, you may have an unsupported version of the game, so email the patcher and ask him if he can add support for your version.

Cheers for the help.

The thing is, my WinUAE setup and the real A1200 have pretty much the same setup.

I do have to use NoMMU with the A1200 because it's got an Apollo (until the Blizzard 1230-MK4 arrives off eBay ), but it seems like creating the disk image on the real A1200 causes problems.

Just wondered if there's an incompatibility with the Amiga Technologies floppy. Next I will try ADF'ing the disks over to the PC, running WHDLOad there with the ADF's and see if that works.

a pain for the real games I've bought, especially when WHDLoad needs originals to work...

Yes there are some problems with those floppy drives, not as bad as the Escom floppies though, best thing to do is get an external drive and create images from that...

Are you using the EXACT same images with both versions?

If so then it could be a floppy drive problem.. if on the other hand you have not been able to create an install from those disks I'd say that 80% of it is an unsupported version!

Have you tried installing other stuff to test the drive?

Yep, took Pacmania (the original version) off Tosec. Do WHDLoad on WinUAE with the ADF and it works. Write the ADF to the A1200, to the WHDLoad install there and it doesn't work!!!

Buying an external drive is a great idea, a good way to get a "real" amiga drive for my Amiga Technologies A1200.

Might be able to get Robocop 3 and all my other originals working then...

RDY line is disconnected and/or "floating" (instable).
Causes a lot of trouble for programs that try to be nice and wait for disk rotation. WB/KS does not use that line.
There are hacks on aminet to fix the problem.

When you write the ADFs back to disks do those work? I would think that if the disks don't work, then it's probably the floppy drive. I swapped my AT drive out for a HD so I haven't experienced the problems myself.
