EAB/Lemon Super League 2012: Round 1 Game Vote

EAB/Lemon Super League 2012: Round 1 Game Vote
Starts: 00:01 January 8 Finishes: 23:59 January 21

Here we go once more. The fifth season of the Super League is nearly upon us - it's now time for the small matter of deciding what game to play.

Rules

Full rules are here.

Vote for five games.

Your first choice gets 5 points, second 4 pts, third 3 pts, fourth 2 pts, fifth 1 pt.

Remember to choose games suitable for competition play. Edited votes will be discounted (unless told otherwise) so think before you post. Please only vote on one board - either EAB or Lemon.

If a game comes in ECS and AGA versions, please state your preference in your vote. In the event the versions differ gameplay-wise, the version with most votes will be played. ECS is the default if you don't specify.

xpect has double voting power after winning Round 14 last year.

Tactical or nosey voters can see the Lemon voting thread here.

It would be cool to play a wholly different genre once a year, so I vote for some games unusual to competition.
Note: Found that Tower of Babel and Millenium 2.2 need more preparation and Elite 2 is likely not suitable. Graham kindly allowed me to change my vote.

1. GemX
2. Traders (best ratio own money to all computer opponents money)
3. Leander
4. First Samurai (best time)
5. Stunt Car Racer TNT

I'm all for playing something different but it has to be practical as well.

Traders would probably be okay but I'm really not sure the other three games are at all suitable. Bear in mind also we have to play games in one sitting and from the start every time, and I want to avoid another situation where you have to succeed in your task to be able to post a score (like Dune II last year).

Hasn't Alien Breed already been played? 2008 R7? Or is this an open round?

Alien Breed is not, of course, to be confused with Alien Breed Tower Assault

@ Graham - Thanks. I never knew the distinction until just now. I always thought ABTA was the first in the series.

"C'mon mate , let's get you back home eh? Gotta think of Lemon's reputation don't we....can't have you wandering round here making us look daft"

I was interested about some of Harry's choices. I also am up for trying some less obvious games in the comp. But equally Graham's right, we can't have another Dune II situation (i.e. where Mike wins).

@ Lines - That's ok mate, I just wanted to be clear that's all. Never really played the AB series - although I did try ABTA a few times and got completely lost. It's quite a HUGE game!

Should we really play Megaball 3 given that we've already played number 4 and they're all essentially exactly the same game?

I have only played Megaball 1 and 3 (and not recently), so I don't know how different version 4 is. Also, couldn't you say the same about the Lotus games? By a quick look on the EAB voting thread it looks like it'll either be Robocod or Alien Breed Tower Assault that we end up playing anyway...

I think the difference is the Lotus games are all separate, different (oh you all know what I'm getting at) games but the Megaball games are merely upgraded versions (i.e. different graphics, bug fixes) as opposed to anything different. Just in the same way if somebody voted for Deluxe Galaga v1 even though we played v2.6 years ago.
