You are correct, no Kickstart ROMs are allowed on EAB or any related resource site; even if they are embedded in .HDF files...

Obviously all these .HDF files now need to be removed from the EAB File Server immediately. I'm an admin there also, so will delete all straight away

This was an innocent mistake on ransom1122's part... Following on from the above post by thevoice, he subsequently contacted me for advice on how best to deal with this.

My answer was twofold; either:
a) Stop doing these for the good of the community.

or

b) With every .HDF that he's created, delete the "DEVS" directory (which contains the Kickstart ROMS). People then need to add in the Kickstart files themselves.
Of course the downfall with option b) is that it's more work for ransom1122 plus not to mention re-uploading all again once modified.

ransom1122 has decided on option a) which is totally understandable.

It means you don't have to go through this process manually for thousands of files. You can batch the whole lot in one pass.
It is nearly the same process described in your guide. This works a little differently though, there is one separate disk which contains WHDLoad and the kickstart images so they are not duplicated onto every HDF file.
Maybe this is helpful to you?
Option C?

Thanks for all the work you did on these and uploading them onto the server ransom 1122. I managed to grab a few and they were great I was going to download the full set today and try them in the new Amibian release a real shame they have to be deleted after all your hard work

If someone else manages to upload these elsewhere please send me a PM with a link.

I don't get it? How was ransom1122 not using WHDLoad in the way which it was intended???

Just because there was one .HDF per WHDLoad game? Pffft...

Option D is from someone who do not understood this topic or troll I do not understood that topic at first too, but I manage to download some games and extract files that I could never run on WHD. For example bump'n'burn - always show black screen, same problem I have with Batman games an.

Hello EvgeniK45,

Welcome to EAB

You can access the EAB File Server by following details in the 1st post.

...unfortunately though; all of ransom1122's .HDFs had to be removed as they contained Kickstart ROMs.

Although none of my WHDLoad to HDF Converted games can be posted here, I am proud to say that so far I have made 1,550 games so far.

This is an ongoing project to convert ALL of Retroplay's WHDLoad games into HDF, which one day will be done.

Thanks to @Retroplay for the ongoing help of some hard to config hdf's. Seriously you are one WHDLoad God!!

You must use it as a harddisk, use A1200 quickstart + 4mb fast and insert it as DH0 in harddrives tab (add hardfile as device DH0).

this HDF 1-image-per-game thing is an interesting idea. Of course, all games using Kickemu cannot be distributed because of kickstart, that's not practical.

That said, a lot of games needing kickstart also work natively from HD. Of course I prefer whdload for proper crack, speed fixes, trainers, no need for assigns..., and it may not run on AROS or kick 3.1

Note that you may not need to create a HDF file. Just create a directory containing C, S, WHDLoad & the game, and zip that. Just mount the unzipped result with WinUAE & make the mount "bootable". That works, and the advantage is that you can create those archives automatically from the windows side using Python for instance.
