Compact Flash cards compatible with AmigaKit`s PCMCIA Adapter
Evening guys, I am in a bit of pickle at the moment, been trying to get my Amiga Kit PCMCIA kit to work, I have two cards one 512mb and a 2gb, the 2gb is a ScanDisk one and the 512mb is some generic one I bought from the internet. For some reason when I format the cards as FAT32 on my Macbook the Amiga seems to not recognise the card at all, if I format it as UNIX or Mac OS, it shows as CF0??, then when I proceed to format it, it comes up with an error saying it can`t format Cylinder 0. The cards have worked fine on my IDE to CF adapter, at the moment I have gotten the 512mb card as a hard drive inside but I have not been able to get the other cards to work. Is there a specific maker of card to use? I have been searching around the shops here but have not found any CF cards of reasonable size and I am not sure of which make to buy. If anyone has any advice on what to card to use or has one they would be willing to sell, please feel free to PM me. Thanks for your help in advance!

I think it's the PCMCIA card that should be 'PATA PIO0' (same with CF-IDE adapters), and I believe Amigakit's one is. Apart from that, some CF cards fail in both mentioned adapters, see the 'CF Card Compatibility list'. Your Sandisk card should be perfectly usable.
I think the error you made was to low level format the card - otherwise it wouldn't have asked to format cylinder 0 (right, EABfellas?). Always quickformat CF cards. I use FAT16 with the free cfd and 'fat95' utilities from aminet, but I'm sure if Amigakit's software says it supports FAT32, then it should be no problem. Actually my aminet solution is also said to support FAT32. That's my guess anyway. Like I said, SanDisk cards have a good rep for working with Amiga adapters, so I'm sure if you get the card formatted right and can put files on it on your Mac, it will work in the Amiga. If you can't quickformat it on your Mac, it might be possible to do so on the Amiga, not sure tho. |
