The Escom comes with 3.1 roms prefitted. It also comes with a modified PC floppy drive that doesn't produce a READY signal, so some trackloaders don't like it (this mod is reversible). And of course it doesn't have a C= badge

Other than that I'd say it's the same as a Commodore model.

i bought an Escom A1200 and was unhappy with the drive issue... so i bought a A1200 with 3.0 roms and swapped everything around so i have the A1200 that is listed in my sig and i am really happy with it... i can always swap things back, but i havent felt the need yet!

I do however want to buy a white boxed 3.0 machine, with no extra ram and no hd.... i want it as a stock classic machine

mind you i also want a A4000D also... man i need some money

OK, thanks for your input, I really appreciate them all! Personally, I prefer the original C= model, since as you mentioned it can easily be "upgraded" to an Escom model, and it still retain its originality.

Thanks!

Interesting choice of words there.

Just installing 3.1 ROMs doesn't make it into an Escom A1200, but then again in order to make it into an Escom A1200, you need to modify the motherboard and swap in an incorrectly modified PC drive mechanism to fuck up the ready signal.. Which is hardly an upgrade if you ask me. :-)
