Crux is Berndt Schmidts old handle. RH stands for Richard Hoffmann, who wrote the other interpolation code

I checked an old post and found this explanation of the interpolation options. Their purpose as I understand it is to smooth out distortion that happens because UAE produces sound at a fixed samplerate (ie. 48kHz = 48.000 samplepoints per second), while Amiga Paula running at 7Mhz and continously producing samples has like 7 million samplepoints per second. This produces a slightly uneven distribution of Paula samples in the output, audible as unwanted frequencies = noise.
Now the RH method works by making an average between two neighbouring samples and this way turns the 'square' UAE waveform into a triangle wave. This method filters some noise but sometimes sounds a bit more muffled. Bernds method seems to work a bit like antialiasing applied to the 'square' waveforms of UAE. It inserts a certain amount of averaged samples between the square 'steps' of the waveform to give more sliding volume changes. Please don't take this info as authoritative, it's an abstraction from the only bit of info I ever saw on the subject. |

Heh, I always wondered what the whole "Interpolation" thing was about.

interpolation
I also wondered about interpolation differences.
I guess that RH is LINEAR interpolation and CRUX is CUBIC interpolation. Crux gives better results so I don't know why there are two method of interpolation. Just delete the RH option in WinUAE. |

An old thread but, what is Anti or Sinc?
In WinUAE 1.3, which one of the four should I say is best to use on my guides? OK in XMPlay (audio player) I use Sinc as this gives me better sound, going via http://support.xmplay.com/article.php?id=14 Quote:

http://board.kohina.net/viewtopic.php?t=850 Anti is enabled by default in WinUAE since 1.3 (or was it 1.2..). It is very fast and should have good quality. Sinc is better but needs much more CPU power (but it also has free "led" filter emulation) (It probably needs very special sample/sound pitch and/or frequency to hear the difference..) |

Would be useful to have some of this in WinUAE.
RH - Good Crux - Better Anti - Even Better Sinc - Best Not sure though if this is really correct. |

It would be nice if this info would be included in the WinUAE helpfile.
