Super Retro TRIO Console - (HARDWARE REVIEW)

Quote:
Moving on from the Amstrad's, the C64's and the ZX Spectrum, today we are going to look at a rather cool retro based console sent to us by funstock.co.uk, who previously sent us the Commodore 64 : A visual Commpendium. This is the Super Retro TRIO developed by Retro-Bit; an impressive looking (NES / SNES / Genesis/Megadrive - 3 in 1 System ), that can play those old console games without actually switching consoles.

Cheap & nasty FPGA emulation I suspect.

It isn't emulation, it is a 'clone' machine... that means a 'low cost' implementation of the proper hardware for each machine with custom ASICs.

Neil, I wonder if your SNES ram is out of spec like some others have mentioned. You should do a Teardown! C'mon its only 6 screws, what do you need a warranty for anyway?

The new Retron 5 from RetroLink is supposed to be the way to go if you're into this kind of stuff. It seems to run everything you chuck at it.

Of course it's emulation. Hardware emulation in this case. Don't know about this machine, but the RetroN 5 is software emulation too. It's dumps the inserted game cartridge as a rom and starts then the emulator.

Retron5 is just your favourite emulator (probably literally as the code is thought to be stolen) made more difficult by having to source the actual cartridges.

I don't think thats what anyone was talking about, its not what i meant... by that rationale any hardware / ASIC revision becomes emulation. When comparing to something like a retron5 it seems a little harsh and mean toward not only the retro trio, but also the bulk of real classic consoles and computers out there... clever though.

I would never buy any of these crappy hardware emu consoles anyway. Only the real deal here on CRT TVs.

That's not the way to run a business like that in my opinion. If you had problems with it they should have worked with you to iron them out with you updating your review as necessary. If the problems persisted then the review sticks.
