Without Amiga Forever, I would've had a much harder time trying to get back into being an Amiga user (I had access to an Amiga as a kid, but never got into technicalities. I grew up being a PC geek, and I have had to unlearn a lot of PC paradigms that just don't apply with the Amiga).

I tried getting WinUAE up and running previously, and kept screwing it up (whether that was due to my ineptitude or the guides being poor, not sure!). Now that I've had the chance to play around with Amiga Forever, I have been able to gain the skills to be able to use and configure WinUAE properly, and understand how everything works.

So my opinion is based on the practicalities of my personal situation, and wanting to get to grips with the Amiga.

I bought Amiga Forever 6 in 2004-2005 and it was a great introduction to Amiga emulation. I had no idea about WinUAE or anything, and the preconfigured Amigas were nice for getting started in emulating my old Amiga 500 and learning the Amiga platform in general.

I don't buy the whole "WinUAE is too complicated, so THEREFORE thank God for Amiga Forever".

The front end Lemonade for WinUAE was around in 2005.

Amiga Forever started rolling out their RP9 format in 2008.

And if you're clued-in enough to get games/programs, then you'd also be able to find pointers on how to get them working.

I have no need of it now, but I found it very useful when I was just getting back into the Amiga.

In some ways Amiga Forever could be likened to the current mini-console releases.

They (and it) aren't aimed at retro enthusiasts and people who have been emulating these platforms for years. They are aimed at people who want to get a quick nostalgia fix playing games that they remember fondly.
