Amiga 500 middle mouse button use?

Are there any games or apps that use the middle mouse button?

The util/mouse directory of Aminet contains a number of programs that can map Workbench functions to the middle mouse button, if present.

I can't think of any games that use it natively - I'd be interested to learn that, too. Being non-standard, any feature mapped to the MMB would have to be optional.

Or was there any mouse released for the Amiga with middle button?

Oh yes, plenty - I had the Golden Image optical mouse and the Wizard 560dpi mouse - both had 3 buttons.

Most PC mouse adapters will support three buttons, too.

Commodore themselves also released the three button pregnant mouse for the A3000UX.

If you're looking to actually buy one, they're rare enough, but this is what they look like.

I used the Golden Image mouse for about a decade before it broke and I switched to an image-sensing optical mouse. The GI mouse was great.

A lot of people don't realize that optical mice were a thing before the image-sensing ones came out.

I think I've still got mine somewhere - minus the pad of course. Must have a go at printing a replacement sometime!

But yeah, it was a really nice mouse.

Interesting must of been one of the few Amiga components made in Japan.

The wizard mouse was also a really popular three button mouse.

I just received one as part of a lot and printed the mousepad, but didn't have time to try it yet.

I remember using middle mouse button to switch screens. Honestly don't remember if that was part of OS3.9 settings or added by a tool.

That's the only use for it for me too, super handy actually. The OS doesn't support this by default, but for example MultiCX can do it.

original lowlevel.library even can read this middle button. But I never saw a game requiring it. It would be a nice addition for some mouse based games when available though (like pause or spacebar...)
