Flashback on A1200

I only played the Flashback game on A500 (v1.2, rev.5).

When I tried it on emulators they all had timing errors in the intro of this game.
After a lot of updates the WinUAE plays correctly the intro of this game on A500 config, now.
But not on A1200 config. I know, the A1200 has faster CPU, etc...
I haven't seen this game on real A1200...
Does this timing problem happen on real A1200?

I have never seen any timing issues in the intro with Flashback and WinUAE / A500 settings

Are you talking with the disk version? What settings exactly are you using? Attach your configuration file.

For the A1200 just use the WHDLoad version...

Long time a go, I've played Flashback on my real A1200 (disk version).
Never had any problem with intro, or the game.

Actually, I had problem, game was freaking hard for me, back then.

Sorry, if I wasn't understandable! I meant that on the timing error, the music not finishes at time!

Here is the wrong ending:
[ Show youtube player ]

Here is the good ending:
[ Show youtube player ]

The music was not good in the WinUAE! Now, it is ok but I do not think it is 100% accurate!

I'm not really sure what to say to you...

Your 2nd video is how it's always been for me in WinUAE since 2005 and exactly how it was on my A500 back in the day

...Flashback is a cult game; if the intro was out of sync / there were timing issues in WinUAE, I do think there would be more threads about it by now (and of course Toni would have rectified).

Yeah but he said A1200 not A500. Go on and try it with an A1200 config and you'll get the result of the first video.

Your answer is simple: Yes. This happens also in a real machine.

My guess: Gesqua must have made the music timed with the performance of the A500 (which slows down at many parts), so when you play it on a faster system that has no slowdowns, the music is too long. They definitely didn't think this one through.

So yeah basically the playback of the intro or music are not tied to each other. I don't think there's a fix for that, unless someone changes the module somehow to reflect the new timing.

yes on my A1200 which have a 020/28mhz accel the intro play a bit fast
the intro is very sensible to timming issues and cpu speed, it seems it works correctly only in a 68000/7mhz

Think what might be happening is this: When Flashback was first programmed back in late 1989 early 1990, it would of been developed on an ECS Amiga 500 possibly even an OCS. Either way an A500 to say the least.

Take into consideration that AGA 32BIT Amiga's hadn't surfaced yet, Delphine and Cuisset didn't even factor those machines into the code. So while Flashback works perfectly on an A500 OCS/ECS 16BIT, it is bound to have compatibility issues, on a later faster new chipset machine.

Remember Flashback was released in 1992 which was practically over when the A1200 was launched, in the October. It took 2 years to program Another World, Flashback would be no different back then.

If I remember correctly the WHDLoad version on an original Amiga 1200 is fairly stable. That music when it introduces the game screen and options is probably one of the best pieces of music on the Amiga. Short as it is, it is certainly sweet!

The WHDLoad patch has a intro timing fix for faster CPUs.

Code:
version 3.3 (26.10.13) done by Psygore:
  - slave completely rewritten, all OS functions patched, needs less memory
requirements (416 KB ChipMem/668 KB OtherMem)
  - a 2nd slave added for low memory system (no zoom option)
  - CD³² joypad buttons supported
  - colorbit fixed
  - set CUSTOM2=0-2 for difficulty (0=Normal, 1=Easy, 2=Expert)
  - set CUSTOM3=1-7 for level start
  - set CUSTOM4=1 to slowdown the anim sequence on fast cpu
  - quit with an error message if checksum is wrong (packed file)
  - most files can be packed as data with Propack or FImp (about 500k will be
    saved with RNC method 1)
  - QuitKey works on 68000 now
  - BoxIcon added
  - new install script

Read carefully again, now, trying to read the whole message maybe?

Also btw, this also happens using WHDLoad. It's a game bug. As I said the problem is the module.

Flashback is a 1993 game, well after A1200s already existed.

For f$%k sake Akira; sometimes you really do like to argue / split hairs. Last thing I say on this matter...

Yes, what you're talking about is related to the the 2nd part of six's original post...

The 1st part and opening statement by six was as follows:

That is incorrect and what my responses refer to i.e:

No it isn't, it was 1992 you should check the game intro screen at the bottom, if you are still not convinced.

Like most original Amiga games, Flashback was written primarily for the A500.

Well, released in 1993 for sure. Earliest mag reviews are from 1/1993, mainly 3+4/1993.

Calm Down, dude. Even HOL lists it as 1993. And i think it's true for the Amiga version.

"Flashback" © 1992 Delphine Software tells WHDLoad. If it is reviewed in 1/93 mag the review is written in Nov/Dec as the January mags tended to come out in December. But who cares...
Actually, on the floppy starting screen is © 1992, too. (downloaded and launched on WinUAE)

I shouted the year because I just do not get why you are always trying to correct?? Even now when you know you are completely wrong??

HOL is wrong too, it was 1992, it is on the game itself for crying out loud! It might of got a review in 93 but the game was released in 92.

@zipper, good to see someone else knew it was 1992 !

Just checked the file data stamps from the French version. Last 1992 file is dated 01.12.1992. So, it's highly possible that it was released in 1993. Hence the most reviews are 03/04 1993. No game was reviewed 3-4 month after
the release.

edit: Newest English version file is 06.01.1993.
