Tolerant LCD monitors
A couple of weeks back my CRT 2nd monitor finally shuffled off it's mortal coil, having given an increasingly unstable picture for about a year so I replaced it with a used 19" LCD. Unfortunately, neither the LCD monitors I already had (Samsung T220, and Apple 15" studio display from the beige G3 era) or the 'new' one (Sony SDM-E96D) are really happy working with either the scandoubled output or the Graphics card on my A4000, though the samsung at least can just about get a lock on the scandoubler, depending on screenmode. Anyway, getting rid of the humongous CRT on my desk has left me with enough space to contemplate quad head on my Mac, but I'd like the 4th monitor to be highly tolerant of unusual signals to make using the Amiga possible.
Does such a thing exist? or am I stuck with some kind of LCD TV with SCART and VGA/DVI/HDMI input? (Don't really want that) |

I use older Viewsonic monitors, VP171 and VP201.. Both are happy to display a scandoubled Amiga picture at 49.9Hz vertical, and any RTG modes I care to throw at them.
Tested with the A3000 flickerfixer and the Picasso IV. At least the older models can be easily found on online auction sites. Most of their current lineup also seem to support 50Hz upwards vertical and horizontal around 24 onwards, so there's a good chance of them supporting 49.9 too. I use a samsung SyncMaster 2333HD which works great for me.
It's a full HD 16:9 monitor with dvb-t/c tuner and all sorts of inputs. i use my PC with DVI and my mig, with scart. Since it's also a tv, it can display 4:3 picture as well. |

Viewsonic looks like a good contender for number 4 then, though I can't see any of the models mentioned on ebay at present.
But an update, after some hacking with p96mode I managed to get a picture of sorts on the samsung, problem is that the monitor refuses to centre it properly, and even at maximum adjustment there is still a few lines off the bottom and a section of unknown size from the right hand side of the screen missing. I thought I could take up the little bit by adjusting the width and height in screenmode prefs, since nothing further I do in p96mode can improve matters, but the maximum size that screenmode prefs allows is 1360x2048, which gives me a 3" black stripe up the right, but at least sorts the height out. Anyone come across this and knows of a dirty little fix for it? As far as scandoubled output goes, the samsung displays a little message saying it's not the optimal resolution which won't go away, and periodically loses sync entirely requiring toggling between inputs to get it back. Seems to be stable if I boot in NTSC, but it looks even more like ass. I suspect there's some combination of jumpers to make the scandoubler output a slightly different signal, but it's an old and funky thing for which I have no manual, but I did find one on the net once, and then lost it... since the samsung is designed to also be a tv, it shows 50 hertz just fine, got a very nice and stable picture when i set display mode to 4:3
Edit: im not using a scandoubler, just standard rgb-port to scart, so cant say how that would go Last edited by Nikolaj_sofus; 14 February 2010 at 18:40. |

Amiga RGB to SCART LCD TV is definitely the most cost effective and flexible option.

Sorry for the thread necromancy, i've got a Samsung Syncmaster T220, I don't want to scandouble or any of that funky stuff, I just want to plug my A1200 into it.
Anyone know if its compatible for normal screen modes? And whats the best cable solution for this and who sells it ? Ta in advance. |

Doesn't look too good -
Horizontal Frequency Bandwidth (H-Sync Rate) 30-81 Hz Vertical Frequency Bandwidth (V-Sync Rate) 56-75 MHz (not even PAL...) |
