Annoying sections in good games
Gary's post about Wings gave me the idea about this thread.
Can you think of any very good games that had annoying sub-levels or sections in them? Sections you just wanted to get rid off and continue with the rest of the game? International Karate + is a fine example, such splendid butt-kicking interrupted every two levels by these crappy balls-shielding & bombs-kicking sections. Manunter New York & San Fransisco, two excellent and much underrated adventure games had some awful 8-bit like action sequences. |

Any action sequence in an adventure game is annoying. I remember the frustration when playing Operation Stealth and some of the Sierra games.

There's always the odd exception, like the brilliant shooting section in Future Wars and the battleship in Monkey Island III (PC game, I know).

Right Walker, Fights in Indiana Jones: Fate of Atlantis were annoying. It's a great game though.

Viz
The annoying bit was the game. The fun bit was the bonus levels - e.g. Bouncing with Buster Gonads ! |

Robocop's sub games..
Why practise on a shooting range when there are perfectly good baddies!!! Oh and what was the point in the face match sub-games!!!! Pointless |

I remember Shinobi and it's bonus levels when I think about Robocop's shooting range. Similarly annoying. Robocop wasn't even a good game, at least the Amiga version.

If we're allowed to mention cool sections in cool games I'd like to state the Fruit Machine section at the end of each of each level in Superfrog. If we're not.....I'll keep quiet or start a rival thread !

Yes that was bloody cool. I remember constantly doubling my score there to such an high amount that it wouldn't display on the screen

But they were levels, so I guess they don't count ! Project X was another cool one - the bonus level was so cool they ripped it out and put it on a Amiga Format disk |

Can I go out of the Amiga platform for a bit?
Axelay - SNES. Those pseudo-3D vertical sections are absolutely annoying! I hate the game because of them, and it's a shame, because the horizontal scrolling sections are quite the treat! Burseg: in Indiana Jones the fights could be skipped! There was a key you would press for performing a "super punch" that knocked out the enemy instantaneously. but thsi didnt gave you any IQ points, so your final score would decrese. |

@ Walker-totally agree about Operation Stealth, dude! What was a pretty good game, was absolutely ruined by those crap arcade sections-I completed the game, but only after swearing lots & vowing to NEVER play the game again 'cos of those sequences!
Akira-did that "superpunch" only apply to Fate of Atlantis?? That could've been handy in Indy & the Last Crusade. As far as I recall.most "fight" sections in Last Crusade,& Fate of Atlantis could be avoided,BUT only if you the correct phrases &/or objects. For example Hitler's autograph on the papers to let Indy & his dad through the sentry gates when you're escaping on motor bike. I would've loved a "superpunch" to try on the Zepplin maze. |

Fade 2 Black
Utterly shite flying sections. Totally not in keeping with the rest of the game, they were an absolute chore to get through, and when I had completed those sections, I was so glad because they were not even fun toplay......Arghhh!!!!

Those annoying things at the start of many of my games, with the word Fairlight or something. You know, the ones where you have to press the mouse button. |

In Snatcher, I hate the shooting sections. I wish I could just go through the adventure game.
But well, that´s an MSX game.. |
