Creation of a 5 1/4 diskette =)
Just saw this video at feber.se. Its in Swedish but a nice view from inside the factory where they created the diskettes.

They are more reliable in my experience. I've never been able to understand why, you'd think the huge hole which exposes the media would make them very prone to errors.

Pretty sure it has to do with density. The bigger the density, the less reliable they became, more prone to errors in keeping all that data together. Think about a bus which you cram more and more with people. It will break more often the more you abuse its space.
5 1/4 disks reliability: single > double > high density 3 1/2 disks reliability: single > double > high density In the case of 3 1/2 disks, high density ones are basically useless. |

One time I tried to get on the District line from Blackfriars at rush hour and when I got off I had checksum errors all over my jacket.
