A600 HD overheating?
My hard drive in my a600 heats up quite a bit and i was wondering if this could damage and of the components inside my a600.
If so how can it be prevented??? Thanks |

install a little fan inside the a600 case, and make it blow through the ventilation holes on top...

Like this:
And cover the rest of the vents slots with tape which i've done on this pic. You steal the current for the fan from the floppy drive power. |

Looks a lot like my 600 only I have the 40 MHz A630 instead (and a 3.5" HD) Very cool, flies like the wind! Have installed a tiny little fan onboard the 630 to keep it cool - wedged between the chip socket and the SIMM socket he he he!! And people reckon the A600 is only good for games.....
Wonder what these A630 accelerator cards are worth nowadays, I keep hearing their as rare as rocking horse poo.... |

My ram is soldered on the board and the 8mb disables my PCMCIA port which is quite annoying, hehe. Before I added the cooling fan I could really tell where the 68030 was located by feeling the hot spot in the case With '030 and 42mhz and an FPU @50mhz you can actually do something with the A600. Haven't used an Amiga with a plain 7mhz 68000 for years so I dunno what my reaction would be is I saw how slow it would work. |

In an A600 without an accelerator, I don't think thisis needed as long as you have a 2.5"HD. Yes the heat is scary but it shouldn't hurt your Amiga.
Fitting the fan is a nightmare isn't it? I tried that with my A1200 but decided better not to. |

Exactly.
Before i got my A1200 working, my A600 was hard working... uhmmm... i mean playing After some time it was hot like hell, but hey, it's working since 1994 so why should it burn now I did experiment though, with some big (like in the PSU) fans and small (like on the GPU's) ones, but they were all way too noisy - i mean the humm, vibrations, "wind" coming out of every case hole The main problem is that there is now way (i mean i didn't find one) to place them - "seal" them - in one place. Sometimes they just move all around the motherboard, and only cause some flapping noises... |

Just look at the pic above Shoonay, AMIGAZ has secured it perfectly.

GOD DAMN! So there is a fan on that pic
Geez, i was looking at the motherboard, searching for some "super-micro-hidden-fan" (under the middle card maybe? ), and all that time it was there - under the keyboard cable... talk about stealth Great work AMIGAZ |

Amigaz: YEah, it's the Apollo, fitted with am old 8Mb SIMM. I use it mainly for Pagestream stuff, although Final Copy II is also installed on the HD. BEfore the A630, the printer used to sit idle, waiting for the Mig to send data to print - with the A630, the Mig sits and waits for the printer to finish. Really flies, as fast as my old 486 DX2 on most things.
