Using Iff backdrops

I have gathered a few 16 color Iffs to use for a backdrop on my Amiga 3000 with OS3.1 in Winuae 4.2, I have my display as 640x256 Pal lowres without scanlines and when I use a 690x540 maybe 4 - 16 color backdrop it will accept the image and I get half the image cut off, so when I try and resize the image to 640x256 in Nview using the same bit color and Iff format it will not use the image.

I had my Amiga 1200 accept the re-sized images without problems on the same OS 3.1, so what could I be doing wrong?

Sorry to bug you guys with so many questions, as I am sure you get enough noob questions as it is.

Sometimes i use Personal Paint to convert .jpg`s into .iff for backdrops....i "grab screen" in Ppaint menu select "workbench" in that pop up box....so then i know i have the correct screen size....then load in the .jpg after...it will ask you to change screen mode but cdont do it...you may have to Remap colours etc.

I also use HamLab to do the same.

I was being lazy and doing this in windows in XNView, I used to have Photon Paint back in the day and I have seen PPaint somewhere in my Amiga programs, so I might try it.

Yeah, PersonalPaint is an excellent tool for converting graphics, with good palette reduction and scaling algorithms that are well suited to Amiga use.
