this is an emulated os3.9 environment in winuae 3.3.0.
screenmode is 1920x1080 (hd), rtg driver is picasso96/uaegfx.

unfortunately this error is much too fast gone, i can't even read it.
i can only try to describe this problem as good i could:
first after boot, workbench in native pal resolution, 4 colors, no rtg.
error appears, could be something like "resetting screen" probably.
screen flickers 3-4 times, sometimes even more often, means:
screen goes black, workbench in pal returns, goes black again...
while these short periods of workbench returns, error is there also.
but as i said, unfortunately it's too short for being able to read.
i already tried to halt the emulation by pressing f12 key in time.
but i never get the right moment. i never keep the error on screen.
then at last workbench rtg (hd) resolution appears, without error.

at the moment i can't even tell if everything else is working or not.
it will take some time to try everything and see if it's working, i think.
the very first thing i'll try to run while testing, will be netprinter prefs.
i'm quite curious to see, if it's causing an guru again in this install.

what i already can tell by now: ram disk icon appears pale/transparent.
since update. like "hidden" files/drawers or files/drawers without icon.
see attachment...

well, let's start some beta testing...

Since your using WinUAE, press the <Pause / Break> key as soon as you see it and then take a screenshot

at least i managed to make screenshots of the botched booting process post boingbags 3&4.
i think i have found the cause for this, there is some kind of cli window which remains open.
this open cli window seems to prevent workbench from being fully initialized, i guess...
this window is hidden behind workbench window. that's why it took me so long to realize it.
still guru with netprinters prefs. and openurl throws attached error and goes guru as well.
palette prefs does something really weird with colors. i attached screenshots for mentioned.

as a trial i also tested on my working hdf in pre boingbag 3&4 state, no gurus there at all.
before installing boingbags 3&4 i can use both netprinters and openurl prefs without errors.
well, these were the prefs. i haven't tested anything else yet.

btw.: what is workbench preferences - "ghostbuster edition"? i'ts not localized anymore...

another question, off-topic: worth odering/registering mui to get rid of "unregistered" thing?
unfortunately not possible to order/register magic workbench anymore. would do that as well.
why is there no mui prefs in prefs:? i have to navigate to mui drawer for access to its prefs.

This is a common but minor problem. The CLI window is opened to display info because of an error and then the workbench screen can't be reset to your preference with the CLI window open. This should go away when the output is removed or error is fixed. The error is probably the LoadResident and LoadModule problem. These commands need to be copied to SYS:C or the path command in the S:Startup-Sequence is not correct.

Try opening and saving the SYS:Prefs/Fonts settings. Reboot and see if the problem went away. There is a known but harmless bug in the new workbench.library which this may avoid. You could also try opening and saving the SYS:Prefs/Palette settings. Reboot and see if the problem went away.

I'm not sure it is possible to register MUI anymore and it really isn't necessary. There is a new version of MUI available for the 68k but it is a complete redesign and has compatibility problems. MUI is an add-on and not the AmigaOS standard GUI which was Reaction for AmigaOS 3.9. It would have been possible to put the MUI prefs in SYS:Prefs but that was the programmers choice. The isolation of MUI files does make some things easier like installs and uninstalls.

No.

MUI isn't part of OS3.9 nor of its Boing Bags (and never will be).

i know that, i have installed mui myself prior to updating to boingbag 4.
was just wondering, why it's prefs isn't where it belongs (in my opinion).
as i pointed out prior to the question, off-topic. so no offense intended.

They are in Files1/C . It seems for certain users those are not being copied over for some as-yet unknown reason.

It is an enhanced version of Workbench preferences with support for GhostBuster features. The gbprefs.catalog file is in the wrong place, it is in SYS:Locale/Catalogs/deutsch/ but needs to be moved to SYS:Locale/Catalogs/deutsch/Sys/ , then it will be localized.

I had somehow not noticed NetPrinter Prefs was a MUI-program, I am getting similar gurus here with it and have removed it for V1.24. OpenURL isn't part of BB3&4.

Just informational.....

I ran an install with the 1.0g package and had zero issues. Doing so with 1.23 and I get an error after I select A4000D, click next and it errors out and can't proceed. Checking "Other" instead, and I can continue but the LoadModule and LoadResident files do not get copied over so error leaving the CLI window open.

Granted, I'm doing this in WinUAE configured like my A4000, but I did the same with 1.0g and it went fine and I was able to boot my A4000 off the CF card I had done the install on.

Hi,
I had problem that all files didn't get copied when installing BB3&4 on a new installed OS 3.9 with just BB1 and 2.

I somehow found out that I needed to create a subfolder called SYS:L\CrossDOSFileSystem and move CrossDOSFileSystem to that folder. After that all the files is copied over during the install of BB3&4.

I also tried now with the latest BB3&4 1.23 and get the same problem.

I also get script error if I select A1200 when choosing the machine (on WinUAE with A1200 setting). When I select other it works. I didn't remember I had this problem on real machine with earlier version.

/Jan-Erik

In case errors disappear too fast just film the sequence with a smartphone and then playback the recording frame by frame to spot the message/error/popup. I did this a few times during QA tests at work. Works perfectly!

OK, V1.24 has been released, it is available from http://amigan.1emu.net/releases/#others

All the bugs reported in this thread should now be fixed. If you have a SYS:L/CrossDOSFileSystem/ directory, it may be necessary to delete it (and its contents) before installing.

Thanks to all those who reported bugs in V1.23.

@honx: OpenURL isn't actually part of any version of BB3&4.

Can we install this on top of CWB 3.9 (v28)?

@dirkies:

I don't know, not having tried. It's intended for a vanilla system but there is no reason it should not work AFAIK.

thx, can't wait getting today's work done and finally getting home to try it!
i'll restore backup of os3.9 hdf made prior installing v1.23 and install there.
so i get a clean install which i haven't messed around by trying v1.23...
do i still have to move files around or is this fixed too?

just tried it on my CWB3.9 v28.

got 1 error at reboot:
SYS:C/Makelink: function not implemented

So I reverted back to the original startup-sequence (was approx 2800 bytes while the BB3&4 was only 1800 bytes)

It now boots fine again, just not sure what it modified!

about modified Startup-sequence:
is there any software available out there for comparing two versions of a file,
which points out the differences, which makes it easier to locate changes?

The diff command is what you're looking for. It's normally part of SDKs and the likes, but there are also a couple of versions on Aminet if you don't have one already: FDiff and diff10 both look like likely candidates, but I haven't tried either.

Or, simply open two Ed windows, Notepad windows or whatever and open both files side-by-side for a visual comparison.

...or if you transfer both S/Startup-Sequence files to Windows use Word's "Compare and Merge" to see all differences

<hate myself for mentioning this> but it works very well for this task.
