Wanted: PCMCIA

Hi Guys,

Looking for a PCMCIA network card for an Amiga 1200. Prefer a wired card and not WIFI.

Thanks,
Stephen

There are hundreds on eBay right now.
  • You don't buy a CARDBUS (32-bit version) because they don't work (easy to spot, they have a row of bumps near the computer end). Most have 100Mbit written on them. There are a few PCMCIA ones that support 100Mbit but a rule of thumb is ignore ones with 100MBit on.
  • It must include the ethernet socket cable, 99.9% are listed without one, don't buy as you can't buy them separately.
  • Don't buy one with an integrated ethernet socket unless you know it fits as they don't always physically fit in the Amiga without modifying the case.
There are two chipsets with AmigaOS drivers. Download both of the two drivers from Aminet and inside the archive is a readme/guide with a list of compatible cards by manufacturer name and model.

Bromigo! Something like this is a good card;

Do a search on Google for compatible PCMCIA cards for the A600 and 1200.

I use a "3COM EtherLink III Parallel Tasking PCMCIA adapter for 10BASE-T and Coax" (just read that off the top of the card).
Works great.

And as mentioned, make sure you get one with the RJ-45 cable. Different models have different cables...

Hi Stephen. I have a Wireless LAN PC card that came with an A1200 I bought ages ago that I don't use at all if that's any good. I'm in Tassie.

When I was looking for PCMCIA WiFi, I ended up with I think 3 different cards that did fit but I just couldn't get them to work. All specs were supposed to be just right but no. Then I eventually bought one from some Amigastore (don't necessary mean the .EU one, but some) and it was smooth sailing from there on.

So my advice would be to buy from somewhere/someone who really knows the Amiga-stuff and promises it to work. It was years of pain in the *** trying to get things to work.

The Amiga stores I have used/know of (Amigakit/Amigastore.eu) and even a few in the usa, don't have any listed.
