Amiga 1200 & RGB scart cable results in very dark picture
Hello everyone,
I bought an RGB scart cable for my Amiga 1200, but I'm dissatisfied with the resulting picture on my television. Although the picture is very stable and clean - as you'd expect it from an RGB signal - it is very, very dark . Any experience with this? Can I do anything about it? Through composite the brightness and colours are perfect. Thanks, Liam |

@mrleeman
hello there, Welcome to EAB, theres plenty of re0licious mischief to get upto around here, so kick back and enjoy the honey coated retr0dom that this fair board provides now, from the sounds of it, the RGB cable has an abnormally HIGH draw on the RGB lines, although this could be the monitor that its plugged into. So to help, lets have a look at your scart lead/cable and take photos of the circuitry each end and we can then help to advise |

I suspect there are resistors on the RGB lines, if they are 75 Ohms and your TV is expecting 47 Ohms or none at all, this might explain it as the signal will be low. As Zetty says, a picture will reveal all.

probably exist resistances in the R-G-B cables, remove them and you will have bright signal.

Hey... thanks for the warm welcome! I do like it Retr0 . I used to have an A500 for many, many years, but then I sold it to buy my first PC - shame on me. Since I could never really get over it I finally decided that it was inevitable to get the real thing again after sticking with UAE for quite some time. So here I am now, proud owner of an as-new CD32 and a brand-new A1200 - and lovin' it
Alright, tried my best to take the photos. Let me know if you need more Thanks! |

Yup, there are resistors on the RGB lines, they have been covered in heat shrink. I suggest you cut the heat shrink off the RGB signal lines and note the value of the resistors just in case (they are usually 47 or 75 Ohms, I've not come across any others being used).
Remove the resistors, reconnect the wires and all should be ticketty-boo. Merlin |

@Zetr0:
I read your post in time Had to get me a new soldering iron since my old one seems to be dead. The carnage is about to begin @Merlin: Thank you so much for offering your help in the WHDLoad thread. Unfortunately, I'm currently in Constance, Germany for my studies. Really, really nice of you. |

Alright, I did as I was told, but when I plug in the cable now, the picture flashes for a split second and then goes black again. What did I do wrong?
EDIT: Haha, it was all down to my own stupidity. My soldering job was fine, I just forgot to set my scart switch box up accordingly. Thank you all! The picture is amazing!!! Last edited by mrleeman; 20 July 2008 at 07:28. |
