Let's just suggest a good low cost (or free) solution everyone can use

OK...

Dual Core = Avast or AVG
Single core = Run online scan from Trend / Panda / Eset or Kaspersky every couple of weeks!

Good to hear it's sorted

@Rabbit
I'll have a closer look at NOD32. Seems to be a good one indeed

This reminds me - I have no antivirus at all on Vista x64... I find its pretty good at not picking them up since most apps are virtualised... My email provider scans my mail...

I like cleaning up virus ridden machines - I tend to do it manually as I am yet to find ANY AV programs that are as effective!

For me speed is everything... We scan, OCR and index 50,000+ pages per day and NOD32 is the ONLY AV program I have found which doesn't add any significant time to the process.

An example (Indexing 100,000 pages)
NO Antivirus = 35 mins
NOD32 = 45 mins
AVG = 1 hour
Avast = 1 hour 5 mins
Kaspersky = 1 hour 30 mins

I may actually go for the ESET Smart Security. that way I will have nod32 and firewall all in one package instead of running 2 different packages on my computer. what you think?

Personally I think you are better off with just the AV.... The firewall is not as good as a dedicated firewall and the antispyware is also pretty bad imho. The junk mail filter is very good though!
