Is there any place where I can find a list of mods (or mp3's for that matter) listed by the name of the demo they figured in?

Not exactly, but nevertheless take a look at www.back2roots.org. If a mod comes from a demo, the name of the demo is also listed there. e.g. if you search for "Switchback", you'll find

- the demo itself
- two mods used in this demo
- one picture used in this demo

Not exactly what you're searching for, but not bad at all (I hope).
