Retaining window positions on restart

I often run two instances of WinUAE and I've noticed that when restarting the emulation, it will reopen the emulation window on top of the other instance, and following that, the configuration window will also move on top of that belonging to the other instance.

Any possibility of having the instances retaining their individual window positions for both the emulation and configuration would be great.

Thanks

have you tried making a copy of your winuae dir and using winuae.ini to avoid the registry?

I have now, and while it is a work-around, it works like a charm!

Thanks!

-ini <inifilename> command line parameter probably works better, no need to duplicate winuae.exe.

ADDED:

Just a thought: what if winuae checks <name of executable>.ini instead of winuae.ini? For example winuae.exe renamed to winuae_2.exe would check for winuae_2.ini first (with backwards compatibility fallback to winuae.ini)

Sure why not, but spending a few minutes on that might be better spent on changing what window positions it uses in the first place, though ofcourse I might be the only one who wants this. Right now I'm using two shortcuts for two different .ini files and it works perfectly.

How is WinUAE going to know which positions to use without any way to identify separate WinUAE instances?

No what I meant was that it would be easier to maintain values for window positions throughout application time, and not setting them to defaults or ini-values each emulation restart, but only at application start.

You would have to position all your windows each time you start your session, but the windows would still retain their positions throughout several emulation restarts and there would be no need for several ini-files. Still, I'm comfortable with using several ini-files and shortcuts.
