Weird Science Ltd. Assassins CDs
Thesedays we can see some copy of Assassins CD listed on eBay,
however, it seems that we have to know some knowledges about these items. Once I bought these CDs and tested on my both NTSC & PAL CD32 consoles. And I should write results for any other CD32 users. "Assassins CD "( released in 1994 ) NTSC console could not boot, so switch to PAL mode at early startup menu. If you select "workbench" course at the title screen, it changed to 60Hz mode automatically and we can play games in color even using NTSC console. PAL console has no problem at all. "Assassins CD 2"( released in 1995 ) NTSC console could not boot, so switch to PAL mode at early startup menu. We can play games without color (only black and white). PAL console has no problem at all. "Assassins CD 4"( released in 1999 ) Both NTSC and PAL console could not boot at all. CD usually spins in the reverse. It could not read even as standard Amiga CD on workbench screen (CD32 + FDD system can open workbench screen and open (see) standard Amiga CD software's contents.) "Assassins Ultimate game collection"( 4CDs, released in 2000? ) These 4 CD are black colored, differ from original released disks. Both NTSC and PAL console could not boot at all. It could not read even as standard Amiga CD on workbench screen (CD32 + FDD system can open workbench screen and open (see) standard Amiga CD software's contents.) ...So, if you are interested in these CDs, especially "Assassins CD4" and "Ultimate collection (4CDs)", you should buy as collectors items. And if you use and enjoy these contents, you must copy data from these CD on your PC first, then you should transfer data via 720KB floppy disks or your own blank Amiga CD. My report is all. Thank you for reading. If you have "Assassins CD 3"( released in 1997 ) and CD32 console, please tell me whether it was surely compatible with CD32 or not. Thanks, Last edited by nittamituaki; 31 January 2013 at 00:01. Reason: That main problem is about existance of unbootable version, I changed color of these description. |

Cant see what the problem is here?
Cd's that aren't for a cd32 don't boot on one? They're Amiga CD's not cd32 Titles. Looking at the disk, it doesn't proclaim to be a cd32 title either? Just Tried a Couple of the disks, Ultimate CD Games collection and Ultimate Games No. 2 and they work prefectly on an 1200 with a cd drive. Last edited by sneeker; 30 January 2013 at 20:08. |

@nittamituaki,
In response to the first reply above, I have moderated the thread's title somewhat. |

@nittamituaki,
I have removed your attachment. You may reupload it only without your unnecessary and provocative amendment. As far as I can see, there is no claim that the CD is fully compatible with the CD32 console. |

Okay, I can see your point, but this far down the line we're stuck with it, and there's absolutely no point in throwing accusations about.
So, if you're just politely advising everyone to steer clear of these CDs if they're expecting them to work with their CD32 console, then that's fine, but let's just leave it at that, shall we? Edit: Just one thought: are you using originals of these CDs? If you're using CD-R copies, that could be the cause of any non-compatibilities you're seeing. Further Testings (Using the cd images in tosec, but on my real amiga)
The Assassins disks just come up as a normal icon, they're not bootable in any way, If I boot from a cd32 disk (I used pinball fantasies) then under workbench it appears as a cd32 disk (Different cd icon, label as CD32 rather then the usual Icon and label as the Disc title) and if I reboot with the disk in the drive it will run. |
