What about searching for established Greater London computer fairs and using the same venue/hooking up with them?

I found one as an example... http://www.wizardfairs.com/index02.html

OR

Contact a London Amiga User Group...

http://web.ukonline.co.uk/ant.london/ Email address.... ant.london@ukonline.co.uk

OR

South Essex Amiga Link http://www.seal-amiga.co.uk/meetings.html
They are in Basildon.... almost London and seem pretty active still.

Thanks for your post, DDNI.

ANT or SEAL are indeed interesting addresses for our meeting.
This could be an option...

Also where are the people that voted for London? They should be supporting this not waiting for a guy in Germany to do all of the leg work! (no offense meant Viddi)

If I had voted for a location and it was chosen I would make damn sure to offer support and suggest venues!!!

let's go the whole hog and just have it round KG's house

somewhere on the tube line is probably preferebale for most - then you can use any train / coach / car service to get to the 'general area' and hop on the tube to reach the specific venue! Tube streteches out pretty far....

(just a thought)

@DDNI:
Yeah, might be a bit difficult...

I´m sure (at least I hope so) we´ll find more helping hands after clarification on the venue issue.

There is the old WOASE venue maybe? (Poplars Hall, in Shenfield) Its a town hall so its cheap, its a short train ride out of London (cost £7 if I remeber though) and its got a bar!

Pics of the venue from SEAL

No rooms to kip in but hey.

I lived in outer-ish parts of London (Putney, Slough and quite a few other random places) for many years, and they are certainly not massively cheaper than central London.

The FACT is that somewhere like Cambridge has better, cheaper and easier to use road, rail and bus links, has cheaper accomodation & facilities and most importantly CHEAPER BEER for us northerners who are used to Lancashire Brown Ale at £1.50 a pint!

If this were a large sponsored corporate event and everyone attending was on 50k a year then London would be fine, but alienating large ammounts of the community and 85% of the UK seems insane.

Say what you like, commuting into London from anywhere else in the UK is a nightmare, especially if you're unfamiliar with London's public transport system and many people will find that intimidation a reason not to attend.

I drive to Cambridge quite a bit (Huntingdon to be exact but I visit Cambridge) and it's a piece of piss to get to.

lmao - Tunbridge Wells is i guess close to London compared to most other places, but you make it sound like it's next door!

i vote Tunbridge Wells for the new venue.... bit posh mind you!

i cant really agree with that. London has stacks of transport at its disposal, although i will agree the tube is overpriced - no where else has anything like it for convenience!

i too lived in outer London for many years, but decided to get out.... it's still ok for the occasional visit though i wont recommend living there! Regarding venue hire, accomodation, there is a notable drop in price imho compared to central. And yes, even in beer prices, where it's no different in prices to somewhere like Kent or Surrey.

still, whatever must be must be i guess. Democracy rules and all that.

p.s. i'm not on 50K a year, but even i can stretch to the occasional few drinks in London dont be so tight mick!

Perhaps it´s possible to sleep elsewhere in the building. (main hall?)

Now, there are three locations near / in London, right?
Well, let´s start with that!

May I ask you, who likes to contact:

1) http://web.ukonline.co.uk/ant.london/
ant.london@ukonline.co.uk ?

2) http://www.seal-amiga.co.uk/index.html
chairman@seal-amiga.co.uk ?

3) Hutton Poplars Hall
http://www.brentwood.gov.uk/index.php?cid=512 ?

In addition to that, the voters of Cambridge could try to find a nice and cheap place there. So we can decide if it´s really worth to reconsider at all.

Would it be worth starting another thread with a public poll - "Will you be going to the EAB meeting?"

With answers:

"Yes"
"Maybe"
"No"

Then we could get a rough idea of some numbers for venue hunting??

Just an idea.

Great, DDNI. Thank you very much

@musashi5150:

Nothing wrong with that, but it´s a bit tricky atm.
(The London-Cambridge thingie and so on)

I´m sure all three locations mentioned above are just great.

How are you going to approach the bit about a sleep over?
I think that could freak anyone in charge of renting these place.

Not that it wouldnt be the coolest of things to sleep under the computer table!

Agreed, that does however not stop it being crap, slow annoying and SERIOUSLY confusing for many people who have no knowledge of it.

Standing on packed tubes and busses all day with luggage and arriving at a venue ringing with sweat and missing your wallet is anything but convenient, the fact London has a large transport system does not automatically make that system 'convenient'

Even though I voted for London I do completely understand people's related negatives like expensiveness and travel headaches etc... I too hate the Tube

Cambridge sounds cool to me

I'd selfishly choose Cambridge over London just because it's nearer to me But I don't think that should count for anything...
