What about searching for established Greater London computer fairs and using the same venue/hooking up with them?

Also where are the people that voted for London? They should be supporting this not waiting for a guy in Germany to do all of the leg work! (no offense meant Viddi)

If I had voted for a location and it was chosen I would make damn sure to offer support and suggest venues!!!

let's go the whole hog and just have it round KG's house

somewhere on the tube line is probably preferebale for most - then you can use any train / coach / car service to get to the 'general area' and hop on the tube to reach the specific venue! Tube streteches out pretty far....

(just a thought)

There is the old WOASE venue maybe? (Poplars Hall, in Shenfield) Its a town hall so its cheap, its a short train ride out of London (cost £7 if I remeber though) and its got a bar!

I lived in outer-ish parts of London (Putney, Slough and quite a few other random places) for many years, and they are certainly not massively cheaper than central London.

The FACT is that somewhere like Cambridge has better, cheaper and easier to use road, rail and bus links, has cheaper accomodation & facilities and most importantly CHEAPER BEER for us northerners who are used to Lancashire Brown Ale at £1.50 a pint!

If this were a large sponsored corporate event and everyone attending was on 50k a year then London would be fine, but alienating large ammounts of the community and 85% of the UK seems insane.

Say what you like, commuting into London from anywhere else in the UK is a nightmare, especially if you're unfamiliar with London's public transport system and many people will find that intimidation a reason not to attend.

I drive to Cambridge quite a bit (Huntingdon to be exact but I visit Cambridge) and it's a piece of piss to get to.

lmao - Tunbridge Wells is i guess close to London compared to most other places, but you make it sound like it's next door!

i cant really agree with that. London has stacks of transport at its disposal,although i will agree the tube is overpriced - no where else has anything like it for convenience!

i too lived in outer London for many years, but decided to get out.... it's still ok for the occasional visit though i wont recommend living there! Regarding venue hire, accomodation, there is a notable drop in price imho compared to central. And yes, even in beer prices, where it's no different in prices to somewhere like Kent or Surrey.

still, whatever must be must be i guess. Democracy rules and all that.

p.s. i'm not on 50K a year, but even i can stretch to the occasional few drinks in London

Then we could get a rough idea of some numbers for venue hunting??

How are you going to approach the bit about a sleep over?
I think that could freak anyone in charge of renting these place.

Not that it wouldnt be the coolest of things to sleep under the computer table!

Even though I voted for London I do completely understand people's related negatives like expensiveness and travel headaches etc... I too hate the Tube
