C64 Dtv

Has anyone bought one of these:

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...7a9737cc65bdc2

It looks the biz, but I am just wondering if the joystick itself is actually a proper microswitched job. After buying a so called Competition Pro off a certain other Amiga hardware dealers that was a naff leaf switch job, I'm a bit wary

Yes, I bought tweo of those

But no, no microswitches inside since its all on one PCB .... but the controls are very precise and the games can be controlled very well with that stick

Maybe it varies from stick to stick, but mine's hopeless. I hardly ever manage to hit the horizontal or vertical, I keep hitting the damn diagonals.

I think Ironstone might have given me a free one when I went to see them, but I wasn't sure if they'd dug it out to show me or to give me, so I left it on the desk.

Not leaf, conductive rubber. :-)

Leaf switches have two slips of metal that touch when you press the button..

I still haven't gotten around to modifying mine, but I've read up on all the info that's being posted on the forums.

@keropi

Damn sure it can be hacked. You can add a keyboard, an external drive, effectively turning it into a full C64.

There's also a way to flash the Amtel Chip to add new programs to the Chip

But it's not very advanced yet and you may risk loosing all the data on the Flash Chip resulting in a non working unit Hope they someday get around this issue ...

You can update the flash, but only on V2, that is, the PAL version.

I've "repaired" lots of joysticks, these are an extension to leaf. Inside the rubbery bit is a conductive surface (carbon) which deforms to complete the circuit under pressure and goes back to it's old state when not under pressure breaking the circuit.

It's the same technology as in most modern remote controls.

Color Bug can be fixed by changing six parts on the board, no big deal but I heard they change it in second production run

I have the link to the flash soft somewhere, have a look at weekend ...

I picked up an NTSC one from Maplins for £9.99... it was priced at £14.99 but for some reason they rang it up as £9.99... they seem ti undercharge me by £5 every visit there for some reason

If PAL can be flashed easily enough I'll grab one of those too. My son enjoys Paradroid... quality games can win over the GBA generation!

I know this sounds odd my mate bought a PAL version from Topshop or Topman (what ever it is called) I think? It is in a little boys toys section

They had the PAL ones at Target in Australia for about 30AU... I went back to buy a second one for hacking and they were all gone.

TJ Hughes in the UK were selling them for £20, then reduced them to £10, then reduced them to £5. Dunno if they've got any left, though.

Doesn't say, but I have a suspicion that it's the NTSC version. My TV switches too quickly for me to tell.
