A standard 500 doesn't have a battery.

500+, 2000, 3000 and 4000 do.

The 500, 600 and 1200 rely on memory expansions having a battery fitted to them for the real time clock to work.

You can set the time through preferences but it'l have forgotten it the next time you switch it on

When you switch your Miggy on without a disc do you get the 1.3 icon on the screen? If so those WB discs should be ok.

Could be your serial chips on the Miggy. They have been known to go faulty.

You could - if you feel brave - remove the casing on your 500 and make sure all the chips are pushed home. Remember to remove all power and earth strap yourself - I know I shouldn't need to tell you that but I don't want you getting excited and forgetting

Wink ...

I have got the memory upgrade, what is it 512? so overall it's 1mb
and set the clock and it has stored it so battery in that must be ok for now..

Have just took case apart and pressed in all chips, must admit it did sound like they all moved back into place a little better, will try now and post result, getting very tired though and have work in the morning.

Will try this then post if no sucess, thanks for all your suggestions Davideo, you the man!

Please if this doesn't solve can anyone see something silly i haven't done or that davideo hasn't already said??

Thanks all peace out!

Time for my bed too.

I'll check your reply tomorrow at work and see how you got on.

If anything else pops into my head I'll post it up here tomorrow.

Thumbs down Nope

This time...
RAM:Setup was 40546 bytes

Somethings just out and this is on 16000 mximum buffer on amiga, can't get anymore.

Any other settings that may work change baud rate? etc.. anyone had an sucess if they had problems with certain settings...

Can anyone sell me a null modem cable which they know works spot on?

or next option is Amiga motherboard, bit drastict but cos i've spent a few quid on this set up lately to get this far would seem a shame to throw away in favour of say a A1200 just yet.
I'm sure i'll buy one soon but can't afford just yet need to get a few things for general life before treats to myself! LOL

Any help would be cool, night you guys!!

Once again Davideo, ta mate!

@Paul

You could borrow my good lead if you want?

But that may not tell you if your setup is right or not.

Might be a better idea for you to lend me your lead to try on my known working system.

If I get chance tonight I'll dig one of my 500 Miggys out of the attic and see if I can set it up to work.

The only other thing I can think of is that the handshaking is not working correctly or buffer size is not set right.

Just about to go climbing about in the attic - If you don't hear from me that means I've stepped on the ceiling instead of the joists

How strange now works each time but as soon as it goes to send that second file it says error reading from com port, could it be a pc bios setting??

What would i need to look for?

irq channels etc.. change what to what? i know it depends on the bios, but just the basics of it?

Any thoughts....

I still doubt my lead in case it's not quality enough??
oh it don't know anymore almost at the road!

@Paul

Well after trying 2 500s I gave up - they both refused to startup with a disc in - that's Saturdays jobs sorted out

The good news is that I got it to work (eventually) on my 1.3 2000 with 1.3.2WB floppy disc.

I set everything up as per earlier messages and as suggested by AEXplorer instructions. No good - just like you it kept bombing out.

I increased the buffer on the Miggy to its highest level and tried again. Success a file copied across of 45801 bytes!!

Run setup on Miggy and AExplorer is now in my Ram drive waiting to be copied onto a floppy!!!

Try increasing your buffer - I think 16000 was the biggest it would go.

I have tried amiga explorer 2005 as well

also just changed com port to different IRQ address

STILL NO TING, that's it, my feeble brain is fresh out... cannot think of anything else, it's dodgy amiga or dodgy lead!!

Anyone got a old skool one for sale from way back when...

Also Davideo, i don't expect to borrow your one bud! Thanks though you have a heart of gold.

There are loads of null modem cables on e-bay but you know they are all cheap 3 wire jobbies, i'm suprised at maplin for not coming up with the goods, although it was high quality.

Amiga forevers site says try the belkin F3X171-10 any good anyone?...
then after that amiga 500 motherboard?

How big was the file in the Miggy Ram: ?

Did you try increasing the buffer on the Miggy?

You're welcome to borrow the lead to try if you want. I can always transfer stuff by CD if I need to.

Failing that I'm sure I could sort you out a 500, 500+, 500+ with HD+memory, 1200 or even a towered 1200 at a reasonable price I'm trying to reduce my collection of Miggys - I've moved into a lot smaller house and only really use my 4000D now.

Yes - that kicks in and waits for more information to be sent from the PC to the Miggy Ram. You then finish up with a total of 5 files in the Ram: disk from the PC.

Happy

Right last shot at happiness, have ordered the exact belkin cable as amiga forever said.
If that doesn't work i know it's pc or amiga, have a few pc's in my house so will try all sorts of different settings and pc's etc... and go mad, change everything!

If still no joy my amiga must be f**ked and will contact you Davideo my man for some new miggy gear.

Thanks man

lead should be here friday (belkin F3X171-10 ) will let you know how i got on..

Just for record tested my lead i made again tonight and perfect on connections maybe lead isn't high enough grade or sheilded enough?
Or maybe resistance is too high maybe too much solder and burnt wire going on...

Laters dudes
