Imagine if Commodore would have organize a video games tournament

I stumble on this incredible picture of Counter-Strike tournament:

I wonder if it would have been possible to have a such setup with video projectors at the time. On the apogee of the A500, it would have looked great and made a big buzz.

There was enough good two players game on the Amiga to be viable and perhaps we would have more serial link games.

Unless the resolution of games would have been a problem on big screens, I don't know.

Sure, but would it make much of a buzz on the 'apogee of the A500'? Only someone who had been there would appreciate it.

I wouldn't go to such an event even today - if it was just to watch characters running round the screen with health bars over their heads.

It's even more incredible because they are playing the wrong game at that Counterstrike tournament.

Could we have Counterstrike 1.6 on the Amiga? Just switch it to an isometric view like Syndicate. Also run it at 640x480. Thanks in advance.

Counter-Strike
Quote:
Counter-Strike is a first-person shooter game in which players join either the terrorist team, the counter-terrorist team, or become spectators. Each team attempts to complete their mission objective and/or eliminate the opposing team. Each round starts with the two teams spawning simultaneously. All players have only one life by default and start with a pistol as well as a knife.

The objectives vary depending on the type of map, and these are the most usual ones:

Bomb defusal: To win, the terrorists must carry a bomb, plant it on one of the designated spots and protect it from being disarmed by the counter-terrorists before it explodes. The counter-terrorists win if the time runs out before the bomb is planted, or if the bomb is defused.

Hostage rescue: The counter-terrorists must rescue a group of hostages held by the terrorists to win. The terrorists win if the time runs out with no conclusion.

Assassination: One of the counter-terrorists is chosen to act as a VIP and the team must escort this player to a designated spot on the map to win the game. The terrorists win if the VIP is killed or if the time runs out with no conclusion.
That's shallow and sick. Why would I want to play such a game, or watch it?

I guess you don't like Syndicate.

Many of the missions are just like Counterstrike missions. Hostage rescue, many missions are going in and rescuing an NPC and getting them to the exit point. Other missions you are escorting an NPC to some place.

Some missions are go in and pick up this piece of equipment and destroy it, this is the same as a bombing mission.

Others are just a shootout.

And there are several assassination missions.

Now no true Amigan would say Syndicate was not a great game on the Amiga or otherwise. You could say I'm a Nintendo person so therefore, Syndicate was not a great Amiga game.

That looks more like League of Legends, by the way. Counter-strike is an FPS.

Regardless, I think I would be bored to tears after about half an hour. Doesn't matter if it is LOL or Counter-strike. Or an Amiga game. These things are best consumed in short bursts.

Then you are most suitable for Sensible Soccer tournament - https://sensiblesoccer.de/tournaments

I once took participation in such event, hoping my 1993-1994 SWOS skills are enough. Finished second to last.

https://www.sensiblesoccer.de/index....nament&id=1463

My name is there as a player, but I was mostly providing hardware (Amigas and Sega Mega Drive) and techinical support (writing disks, copying files from PC to Amiga etc..).

My big mistake in the tournament was that I scored at the beginning of the match a goal to one of the pro players. The match finished 11:1 win for him.

Even VICE has article about Sensible Days - https://www.vice.com/en/article/ppvg...e-no-other-925

There are online SWOS tournaments as well, so you can try your skills, without travelling.
