Developer environment (common task ;)
As a beginner I (and probably others) like to know the opinion of (talented) coders/programmers:
- which is the best asm/C/E/pascal/basic/etc... compiler/editor/debugger/etc... - what advantages/disadvantages it has (pro/contra. for example the debugger part is the best, but the other is better when compiling) - what is the system requirements for normal use (I mean no wait for quick operations, not the compiling time! try to do that for usual configs, like - A500, 1MB RAM - A1200(A4000), 030, 2+16MB RAM - "high-end" machines with PPC I've tried to collect a list of available developer program names (officials and the best from freeware/shareware), feel free to add it others. *complete environments: ------------------------ 3D Construction Kit Amiga Game Studio 1.0b Game Smith 2.0 GRAAL (Graphic Adventure Authoring Language) 1.03 GRAC Inga Shoot'em Up Construction Kit Wargame Construction Set World Construction Set 2.04 Demo Mania 1.80 Demo Maniac 2.19 Karate RSI Demomaker *AMOS: -------- AMOS 3D 1.3 AMOS Compiler 1.36 Easy AMOS 1.01 AMOS the Creator 1.36 AMOS Professional 2.0 *asm: ------ ASM-One 1.48 AsmPro 1.16i Barfly 2.00 Devpac 3.04 Maxxon Assembler PhxAss 4.43 Seka *C/C++: -------- Aztec C 5.0 Dice C 3.0 HiSoft C++ 4.0 Lattice C 5.02 Maxon C++ 4.0 Sas C 6.58 Storm C++ 3.0 Storm C 4 Pro VBCC GCC *basic: ------- AmiBlitz 2.4 Blitz Basic 2.1 HiSoft BASIC 2.0 MaxonBASIC 3.00 *E: --- AmigaE 3.3 *pascal: -------- FPC HS Pascal 1.20 Maxon Pascal 3 *useful tools: ------------- Action Replay IV HRTMon 2.22 IRA 1.07 Kefrens Converter 1.35 ReSource 6.06 |

Enzo.... Personally, if you think AMOS I'd go with AmosPro..... I like the interface 30000times better than AMOS the Creator.
Amos should have been placed with the "Basic" languages, though Amos3D and Amos Compiler are addons for Amos The Creator, btw. Otherwise.... AmigaE is something you could try, I guess..... you need a text editor (CED is a nice one) and it features C-alike syntax, and inline assembler, IIRC. |

Yes, it is a standalone, but it is a BASIC dialekt.... if you learn AMOS you'll have very few things that are new/different if you later on try Blitz, for example.
Or vice versa..... |

I wouldn't bother with Amos.. Just dive into Amiblitz it is more powerful and can do system and rtg stuff without too much trouble!
