Chinon FZ-357
I know this topic has been brought up before (I did search first!), but maybe I need some specific information. I jumpered a drive correctly and installed it in my A2000. If I boot off a floppy, it works fine. If I boot off the hard drive I get a DF0:???? on the screen when there is no disk in the drive.
I pop a disk in, and use the diskchange df0: command and I can read the floppy fine. This leads me to believe that the J2 connection on the board needs to be connected with a bit of solder. The thing is. I opened the drive and did a continuity test on what I thought was J2 and it was already connected. The only thing I can think of is that I was on the wrong j2 (I think I was looking at the circuit board where the floppy connector was). Can anyone give me a better description of where J2 is? In fact a digital camera pick would be great Thanks for the assistance! |

Dear Olecranon,
did you check this page? http://www.inf.mit.bme.hu/private/fz357/ It is about modifying certain models for an Amiga HD drive, but it may be of some help to you as well. |

I have looked at that site. Although that information is specific to creating a HD drive (I'm just trying to make a DD drive), there was one diagram that showed J2.
The location of J2 on that diagram (near pins 33/34 of the data connector) do not match the circuit board in my FZ-357. Here is a pic of my drive and the location of J2. This pad is already connected. |

If you have a multimeter handy, you can check the disk-presence-sensing microswitch. It is the rear one of the two on the left side. Once the original HD drive in my Amiga 4000 started to act flakily (often did not sense the inserted floppies at the first attempt, even more often it stopped sensing them in the middle of a disk operation :-), and I found out that this microswitch was the cause of the problem. |

Unfortunately I don't have no good digital camera, but if I don't forget I will open up a converted FZ-357 and have a look again.
I did this loooong ago so I don't remember exactly where J2 was. |
