What system could this be?... c64?... too many pixels?... I don't have the spec on a c64 so don't know the amount of colors or screen size.

Just noticed on the map screen that the little white square that is moving around like crazy is actually moving where the paths are... well, that makes it alot more easier to see the way to take... but don't bother to play it now anyway....

Download it instead. Youtube always fucks with the framerate when they convert our movies to their shitty Flash format:

As I was one of the first HD-installing coders to fix CD32 games for the non-CD amiga, I already tried to make a WHDLoad slave for this game, and this starting in 1999 when I got hold of the original CD and a CD32, but throughout the years and even with the "state of the art" KickEmu + CD32 emu add-ons for WHDLoad, this was not made possible. AFAIR, the game was heavily using cd.device to read the big 400 meg file (it was not a conventional file access, more a block by block access) and I could not find a way to emulate it. Even if I found a way, it would have ended up flashing and flashing because of the memory problem. There's a similar issue for Beneath a steel sky CD32 talking version which is 100MB big. Some amigas can handle the PRELOAD, others can install the game without the voices and it's playable, although not very different from the floppy version. Accessing the CD from within WHDLoad would amount to re-code the CD driver, and is beyond WHDLoad philosophy. I guess that a hardware IDE hack could be done (not sure it would work for all models, etc..), but no way for SCSI cards , each SCSI interface should be supported. Not realistic. I heard people having succeeded in booting up Microcosm using IDEFix or some other CD booter on a A1200. I'm quite sure it's IDE only, but it's reported it's working on a non-CD32 amiga (but you still need the CD). Never could make it work myself, though, but that's not a big loss, because I think the game is crap. When I bootup my CD32 I play James Pond 2 or Chaos Engine instead. |

@ jotd:
Thanks for your information. Yes, I played it with IDEfix 97 and CD32 Emu on my A1200/030. But I´m not able to start it with my A4000/060 (no caches, using CD1 IDE drive with IDEfix 97 as well) |

And BTW I know that an ISO mounter exists on the amiga. In theory it should be possible to play from a special cd.device setting and the ISO image copied on HD mounted as unit 0 of cd device. BTW if this could be done, then doing a WHDLoad version would be a lot easier Unfortunately I think it would be flashy as hell, unless Bert cooks us a special "read ahead" device for non-preloaded files. If s.o. comes up with a full HD version of Microcosm, I'll take on the job of making a WHDLoad slave and convincing Bert to improve the non-PRELOAD scheme (if not already existing). |
