Heretic 060 config

Hello, I was just trying this game for the first time and I was wondering is there anyone here who can help me with configuring the game to run good on a 060 equipped A1200? I have a TF1260 and I was expecting the game to run good on it but I cannot get it to look good and run good at the same time.

Reading the guide I saw options to change Chunky to Planar, however it doesn't tell you where you should enter there tool types, do they get entered on the exe file? I was thinking I could nick the C2P routine from Doom attack optimized for 040+ and see if that helped me.

Options I have used in the launcher app are ASL enabled, Hi Colour, Ham 8, Music, and Joystick.

I'd expected a 060 to run this game with no issues, particular since I can overclock also. Currently my 060 is at 64mhz.

Anyways if someone has some knowledge around this I'd appreciated it.

Yeah exactly, fast!

I downloaded a few versions from Aminet and Aheretic works fast, but has crazy graphic screen tearing,

Amiheretic wont load at all for me

Chocolate Heretic works but has now joystick/pad support

and the first download I tried which is the one I listed settings for only works fast if I turn off Hicolour, but when I do that the graphics are all screwed up when you walk.

Still can't figure this out. In the mean time I used Chocolate Heretic as it seems to work ok, then programmed Joy2Key2 to allow me to use Joypad whilst playing the game.

Did you check the video description?

"Blazewcp+native screen(like fblit)+oxypatcher"

For stuff like that on AGA, you need every possible patch to get most speed out of the game.

I missed that stupidly!

However I can tell you I have BlazeWCP installed already. As for Oxypatcher I am unfamiliar with that. BlazeWCP came installed already on ClassicWB 3.1 and of course am using a native screen mode.

The Chocolate Heretic works beautifully smooth but as I mentioned before I have to use joy2key2 to have CD32 pad controls. The other versions of Heretic I downloaded and installed all seem to provide pad support by themselves.

From reading more about Oxypatcher, I think MMULib does something similar. I have this installed.

I'll read the MMUlibs manual as I don't have that option enabled.

I remember tested hexen port from Aminet (hexen.lha) on a 040/40mhz which is somewhere the speed of the 060/50 and worked well at 15-20 fps. so on the 060 must be a bit faster, don't expect miracles

of course that's not smooth compared to play an enhanced Hexen port today on my PC at 240 FPS on a gygabyte 240hz IPS monitor

anyways, if you want more speed you must purchase a Pitstorm 32 + Raspberry 4, that's 7 or 8x faster than the tf1260

btw, don't try any rare patches because will not accelerate nothing, this game is very cpu intensive

So I have installed about 4 different versions of Heretic.

One is called Chocolate Heretic. This does not have CD32 pad support. However it runs fine on my system.

Sure the PiStorm etc etc but this game is basically Doom. And if I can get Doom running smooth as anything with a 060 then I don't see why I can't get Heretic running smooth as anything. In fact one of the versions I could get working (albeit graphical glitches) was AHeretic which I believe is based around ADoom, again which will work no problem and good framerate on 060.

But as I mentioned above and previously, Chocolate Heretic runs very good on my system it's just I have to used joy2key2 for pad support, I just can't under stand why I can't get this version working

https://aminet.net/package/game/shoot/Heretic

I have a PiStorm BTW but the novelty wore off on me after a month

Yes this is the version I have mentioned previously that I can get working but no joypad support.

It's this version I can't get working fast.

Checked out MMULIb and there isn't an Oxypatcher alternative I'm afraid.

Oh it worked well, but the novelty worse off. Didn't feel real for me. I had the caffeine install on there also. Actually the last time I tried it it didn't allow my CF hard drive to to boot which was weird as it had done previously. But I just am not using it at the moment. May be for a different Amiga at some stage.

You are right, but seems to be a separate from the main MMUlibs lha. I'll install this and try.

***edit*** I was wrong again it is in MMUlibs main install. I must have an old version or something as I could not find it in the guide. I'll reinstall MMULibs from scratch

I haven't myself, I also have this version working, been playing it the last few days and not noticed anything like that. Wish there was music that didn't need a fancy sound card.

@Estrayk

So I installed MuRedox and it made no difference to this version https://aminet.net/package/game/shoot/Heretic

It's still pretty choppy for some weird reason.

Looks like I might have to settle for Chocolate Heretic and just use the keyboard to joypad mapping program

Yep sorry, I'm not really into using joysticks for FPS, always preferred keyboard and mouse

Glad to hear this old port is working well for you though. I recently did a small update to fix a minor bug so make sure you grab the latest version from Aminet.

Oh sorry my mistake, thought you meant my old RTG port of Chocolate DOOM (which also includes ports of hexen, Heretic and strife)

Dammit, I don't have RTG (yet ) to try that. I will once I get my Tower project sorted at some point in my life. I can use Joy2Key2 to map buttons to joypad to suit my tastes
