Yes, to my knowledge it's the first decent PS4 game. However, if the graphics are as poor as on the Amiga version it's no wonder it is getting bad reviews. Also it's overpriced of course, 20 quid is a full-price game, not a budget game.
I wouldn't say the graphics are poor on either version, I think stylistically the PS4 version suffers, and if you look at the PS4 version from a coders perspective, really, its an entirely feasible Amiga AGA title.

That is also very true! But there are timeless games I still enjoy today.

Erm, the SuperFX chip came out long after Super Mario Kart was released! As far as I know, the only games that used the SuperFX chip were Starwing/Starfox and Stunt Race FX.

The thing is about the PS4 release of Putty Squad is this. When people buy next generation hardware they are buying it to see next generation visuals and gameplay. i.e. something they have never seen before. Putty Squad is a great game but offers nothing new to PS4 gamers. That is the key problem with Putty Squad PS4: It could easily run on the PS3. As an example, take a look at Resogun on the PS4 (developed by Housemarque of Elfmania and Super Stardust fame). This is just a basic defender clone but with dazzling visuals and incredible destruction effects. Even though it is still just a simple defender clone it offers something visually that hasn't really been seen before in a shoot-em-up. Putty Squad offers nothing new and that is the real source of disappointment from this 'next gen' game.

Most full-priced games are sold in the £20-£25 range, on the Amiga at least, according to various UK magazines.

Budget IBM games here are $AUD5 which works out to roughly £2.

Console games always seem to be overpriced compared to computer games. £45 for any game is just crazy. Which illustrates the fact that the "piracy" excuse for high prices is bogus (since the machines with the most piracy correlate to those machines with the cheapest games) and the "cost of ROM chips" excuse is also bogus (since most later consoles use optical media).

I stand corrected, my bad.
I confused Mode7 with the SuperFX chip. Super Mario Kart used Mode7, F-Zero both.

F-Zero don't have any special chips.

Super Mario Kart has a DSP1 chip.
StarFox/StarWing, Vortex, Stunt Race FX, Doom, Yoshi's Island - Super Mario World 2 are all SuperFX titles.

List of special chips:

I think 5 to 6 out of ten would have been fair. Putty Squad does have some gameplay issues (dare I suggest it?) that bring playability down (these same playability issues are present on the Amiga version). And of course the price is way too high.

I played the Giana remake recently on the PS3 and I thought it was not as good as Putty Squad PS4. Yet it gets better reviews. Everyone to their own I guess.

Street Racer for the SNES I find more technically impressive, it doesn't use a DSP or any kind of support chip and it has a lot more going on than Super Mario Kart.

They made Street Racer for Mega Drive/Genesis without mode 7. Is it famous blast processing?

5 or 6 only ?
I not played putty ps4 yer but according to the videos I saw on youtube it deserves a 7
reviewers today are so pretensious or so inclined to high developed titles

of course you can't compare putty squad with GTA5
games like GTA5 take years and lot of effort to release

in 1994 putty squad not was a budget tittle it was a quality title, budget titles in 1994 were something like Clockwiser

If the price was £4.99 then I think 7 could be fair. Everyone's mileage varies with these things though.

Are reviewers really that bad? I see glowing reviews of many budget indie titles on PS3, Steam and Xbox 360 these days.

Tbh those high graded indie titles try to make something interesting with existing genres, while Putty Squad does not - at least not something that is new in 2014. It would have been very fresh 20 years ago.

That may be true. But also depends on what you are looking for. I love oldskool titles, so will take a peek if I ever get a PS4...

I bet Amiga-games that looked and played like vic-20 games would have gotten great reviews 25 years ago
