Added Movement and attack to the write up, forgot to mention about the attack controls e.t.c, this is very important when compared to how you play the game compared to later RTS titles.

Pretty well made article.

This game also established the format that would be followed for years to come Striking a balance between complexity and innovation,...
Full stop after "come".

Some of the screenshots in the first part of the article are not from the original Dune II: #4 (purple, meaning you are controlling the Emperor House/Corrino) and #6 (controlling a sandworm + the colour, it is probably the Fremen "House").

If I were a purist, I would suggest not putting that in this part (for a next revision of the article).

Ofc, I would suggest also writing a part on Super Dune II (a hack of DOS Dune II that was more difficult and introduced Mercenaries, Empire and Fremen "houses").

You might have used it but in case not, there is a list of remakes/mods on FED2k. First link in the following post:

When it comes to one grammar error could you please message me as I find nitpicking such as that rather rude. I can understand if I've made lots of mistakes but not this..

As for the next bit, thanks

Sure, if you want.

However, don't take it like nit-picking.
I do that even for Cody's articles:
http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=815103&postcount=2

You can probably find a lot of mistakes in my posts too.

Posting in the forums has the advantage to make other people aware that the issue(s) has/have already been reported. Therefore, you don't get double (or triple or quadruple) reports by different persons.

But if you confirm, next time I will send a PM (I will probably remember but sorry in advance if I forget).

Thanks!

Though it is best to ask if the person wants any advice first, but yes in future please contact me. Sometimes huge articles like this can have the odd full stop out of place or even a typo. It's rare but it will happen from time to time by mistake. I mean Christ I've seen it happen in news papers and even Wikipedia has spelling mistakes.

Everyone has their own quirks regarding other peoples posts, I certainly wouldn't call it nitpicking nor would I take it too seriously either, after all, we're all here to help no matter what it is

"While we are on the subject of SandWorms can any anyone else reading this article name a similar creature which appears in what movie?"

The sandworms of Venus from Beetlejuice? (I think the desert behind the door was supposed to be Venus?) These were obviously influenced by Dune (the movie)'s sandworm design, with their triangular mouths.

They also make an appearance in the Beetlejuice computer game, popping up from the ground whenever Beetlejuice stands around for too long in one place.

Another one (based on OpenDune) called Dune Dynasty. Played the 1st Atreides mission with it yesterday and seemed to work pretty well.
Perhaps the equivalent of OpenXcom for Dune II?

http://dunedynasty.sourceforge.net/
http://forum.dune2k.com/topic/24316-dune-dynasty/

Quote:
Dune Dynasty is a continuation of the classic real-time strategy game Dune II by Westwood Studios. It is not a remake. It builds upon the original game engine as reverse-engineered by the OpenDUNE project.

Dune Dynasty features these modern enhancements:

* Runs natively on Linux and Windows (OpenGL or Direct3D)
* High-resolution graphics, including zooming
* Multiple unit selection with control groups
* New build queue interface
* Rally points
* Multiple sound channels

Plus:

* Emulated Ad-Lib sound and music playback
* General MIDI playback
* Custom campaigns
* Fog of war option
* Smoother unit animation
* Brutal AI mode
* Skirmish mode
* Jukebox
* Bug fixes
