Isn't the audio a part of the digital stream, as a part of the HDMI specs to make it "copy protection proof" ? Or you can just stick on sound after it's been made to fit, and the TV wont notice?

according to wiki, an audio stream can be added

Are you thinking in making some of this adapters? I asked some posts ago about someone making it.

If i read that right, it's like i expected it to be. You cant just add a couple of wires. You have to reprocess the datastream to include your audio. Luckily, it's at this point just handling digital streams, so there shouldn't be any quality losses. Latency, perhaps... But noticeable?

Also, it looks like it might not be real cheap. Or small. Dunno if there is alternatives, or how well it works.

If i can find time i would like to try and do something similar to my vga adapter for the a600/a1200. Also include a header for sound, (way too early to quote me on the sound portion). If a header is added to the board then the option to add sound at a later date is obviously there.

Because the hdmi connectr is small it may be possible to put the hdmi board below the floppy drive on the right side of the A1200 *as well as the RF option). Even possible to make a DVI board for placement in the RF slot with a header on it so you can use HDMI too

@ Amigakit - just curious, do you know how many of these will be available in total (not just including yourself as a reseller) on the first production run? or is that info on a need to know basis

You're watching too many hollywood movies.

Individual Computers is not a public company, so quantities are not public. Only the yearly result is public for a German GmbH (the German equivalent of a "limited").

kipper2k,
of course you can add an audio stream to HDMI, but that would mean converting it from analogue to digital first, only to convert it back to analogue in the TV. That's two lossy steps. Just plug the signal into your stereo or active speakers and you're done.

The only "digital" way would be to sniff the data that's DMA'd into Paula and replicate the audio in an FPGA. With all the sample-rate changes that is used to play different notes in the Amiga, an upsampling beyond 44.1kHz would have to be done, but nothing that today's FPGAs can't handle. Generating SPDIF is not a big deal either (did that with a MACH already 14 years ago), and *that* would be a truly digital audio solution. Anything else would be worse than the original.
Unfortunately, the cost of such a product would be in the ballpark of Indivision ECS (maybe 10,- EUR less, because there's no memory and no DA-conversion required).

what if the TV already has its own internal speakers, would it not be decoding the digital to analogue inside from the HDMI input it already has??

I dont want external speakers, my desk is too small and busy as it is, and when i've got perfectly good internal tv speakers (as in that warm yet tinny retro sound i got from my TV back in the days ) why add more?

i'd rather just send the audio through the HDMI lead that will be there anyway. The question is, How?

Thats exactly what he's speaking of. It's a second transition from a digital to analog, inducing quality losses, if even of a kind your used to.

Buy the gizmo i linked above. I honestly think it's a (to) tall order to have hope of anyone filling it, so i doubt anyone is going to reprocess and tack the sound on inside a HDMI header for Jens Indivision.

You sure you got that right? The one i linked to is $39.20. However, shipping may or may not be expensive. No idea. As i said, build quality, and functionality is unknown to me, i have no intention to get one. I'm going with a DVI->HDMI adapter, and hooking the miggy to the surround. The intro for games, like K-240, will be a good way to keep the neighbors on their toes.

I'm connecting to the Hi-Fi too. I would like a cable with Hdmi, but if not, I will use this adapter inside to have Hdmi if it fits

Is there any advantages of buying an adapter over this cable(sorry for the swedish site but you get my drift...)?
