"The Future Was Here, The Commodore Amiga" available soon!
Jimmy Maher, author of interactive fiction works and this blog (which I strongly recommend to anyone interested in computing history) has just released a book about the Amiga in the MIT Press Platform Studies Series:
The Future Was Here - The Commodore Amiga If it's just half as well researched as the stuff at his blog (which I regularly follow for his posts on IF and retro-computing and will eventually be converted into another book) then It's a must-read. -- |

After an expected prolonged wait, I was advised earlier that my copy is now on its way. A few days ago, I discovered a price increase after missing my intended placing of an order but the personal, friendly writing of the excerpts won me over and I wasn't going to miss this one.
Whatever the book manages to cover, it'll be a pleasure to read another outlook on 'our' beloved hardware, its innovation and its days. The premise of the worth of the Amiga being the first multimedia computer and a democratic platform in its inherent ability to bring 'high-end' features and functionality to the masses is a fine one, regardless of the computer at the heart of the discussion. My thanks and my congratulations go out to Jimmy Maher for getting this book out there. |
