Need help with troublesome DMS files

GDay guys, I'm new here, but a long time Amiga fan

I have some DMS files from my old Amiga BBS, which I closed around 2000 or so, haven't really touched an Amiga since then and I am rusty as ...

Anyhow, I have been using WinUAE v3.6.0 to try and resurrect my old Amiga 2000 setup and having a lot of fun in the process.

The files in question seem to have a Non DOS bootblock and no amount of fiddling on my part has been successful so far.

The DMS files have a Mapus added file.id.diz file included before and after and I have attempted to remove them, but I am still left with a disk that has a non DOS bootblock.

When I insert the original DMS file in the WinUAE floppy drive it shows up on the workbenck as DF0:Qb01 and any attempt to decompress the file to adf provides the same result.

The files in question report as being OK and DMS informs me that they were written with DMS 2.04, which I have an unregistered copy of, but no luck restoring them with that.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get these files back into a usable condition. I would very much appreciate any help or suggestions.

TIA

Does "Qb01" stands for "Quarterback 01" ?

I actually don't know this archiver, anyway you need it to restore the disks

yes, chip is right, quarterback multi-disk backup/archive.
you need to try the Quarterback versions available.
since archives made with - lets say version 5 - do not extract with version7.
but one version will work, i think.
IIRC there are some older versions somewhere. but not yet in tosec it seems.
"Quarterback Tools" is something different, get Quarterback disks and try.

#1) obligement.free.fr: Quarterback5 Quarterback6

np. two more links added, once you start QB you will use "restore"
on next screen you select the source (df0) and target -> empty folder somewhere.
it may fail with some weird message (cannot read index ...) or it will extract.
in case of failure, try another version.

Thanks emufan!

I have tried to restore the files and I did manage to get a couple of them saved to RAM: but since then I have had no success.

That was using Quarterback Tools 2.0 and trying to recover lost/deleted files.

If I try to restore anything else using Quarterback full version, I cant even select the drive to use, it complains about it being a non DOS disk.

I will keep playing around with it, but it's not looking good at this point.

I do appreciate your help though.

the QB Tools you may use to repair your Hdd and stuff. this you should not use at this point.
I have here QB5, on first window you choose "Ram Disk" and push restore,
on next screen select "Floppy Drives" DF0: and click [ok]
it will now ask for the 1st disk of the backup in df0:
on next screen it should already list the content of the archive, you clikc [proceed],
next [Start]

you can try this with CannonFodder archive.
1st three disks, does work here with QB5

#1) once you insert one of the floppy disks images, without QB started, ensure it
is listed as DF0:QB...

Thanks emufan!

I followed your instructions using QB5, but it complained, so I tried version 5.12 and that worked!

I restored all of the files from that particular set at least. Now for the 999 other disks ... lol

Thanks very much for reminding me how to use this program!

Give me a day or so to sort them all out and .zip them and then I can upload them to OneDrive and send you a link to download them from.

Edit: Link Sent

If anyone else wants the link just ask

I am working on creating an FTP account and this message is a part of that.

When I have created the account, I will upload my files for you to download.

In the meantime, can someone tell me how to upload to Google Drive. I tried, but I do not have permission to upload there.

Note: It may take a while before I can create an account, apparently I need to have 50 posts before that will happen.
